' City prepared to pay £5 mill '

Mon Jul 14, 2014 11:10 pm

I am hearing City really want Fonte
Jose Fonte wants to leave Southampton and Ole is pulling out all stops to get him.
Cardiff City are prepared to offer £5m for him after having a £3m bid rejected. He only has 12 months left on his contract.

I bet we can offer a good wage and pay what S'ton want, just if he wants to drop down a division!

He initially dropped down a division to sign for Southampton from Crystal Palace when Southampton were in Division one and Palace were a Championship side.
He's a cracking footballer, demonstrated by the fact that he also played makeshift striker for Crystal Palace from time-to-time.
I think he and Cala will form our CB partnership, both of whom are comfortable on the ball and will provide the link from defence to midfield that we lacked last season.

Would be an amazing signing if we pulled this one off. :ayatollah:

Apparently we are offering players the best wages in the Championship.

5m for a defender in the last year of a contract is a heck of a lot.

No doubt he is a good player mind, but i think anything over 3m is too much.

This would be brilliant. Just think of Marshall in goal and Jose Fonte in front of him.

Go get him Ole :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ole: :bluescarf:

Ole is very frugal in the transfer market actually. Most players came cheap or on a free. I'd rather the club pays 5 mill for a top class defender than gamble on someone on the cheap. The defense is definetly the biggest worry at the moment.

Anything to get that useless Ben "I cost my club Premier League football" Turner out of the side.

I think its a lot but we have saved on other players we have brought in.

I dont think the fact he has 1 year left on his contract makes any difference to us, the only difference being he may be available at a lower fee.
