The three players that 'disappointed' Ole

Sat Jul 12, 2014 6:34 pm

After reading this quote from Ole last week and being told that Maynard was one of those players, I just watched Ole's post match interview from Twerton Park, it seems that Juan Cala and Kagisho Dikgacoi are two players whose fitness levels are not up to scratch and must put in some extra training to catch up with the rest of the squad.

In the interview Ole revealed that Marshall got a minor injury and was not risked, Noone may need to surgery to overcome a recurring groin injury and McNaughton is going on loan to Bolton.

The full interview :

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes his Cardiff City squad to Austria next week, having made progress in his planning for the 2014-15 Championship season.

There were highs and lows for the Bluebirds manager during a 1-1 draw against non-League Bath City on a hard, sun-baked pitch in their second pre-season fixture.

Norwegian striker Jo Inge Berget scored City's goal, while Italian Federico Macheda linked with Spanish striker partner Javi Guerra and Solskjaer said: "They have struck up a good understanding on and off the pitch.

"Kiko (Macheda) has language knowledge - he speaks Spanish, Italian and English - and is helping Javi. They also look good together in attack, while Alfie (LeFondrre) looks sharp and Joe Mason impressed with his clever movement.

"He should have turned inside the box a couple of times and might have scored a couple of goals.

Solskjaer revealed that Kevin McNaughton is set to sign for Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan, while goalkeeper David Marshall was left out because of a minor muscle strain.

He also said Kagisho Dikgacoi and Juan Cala are not at the right fitness levels for matches, while Nicky Maynard was rested after two weeks of hard training.

Solskjaer also talked about his worries over Craig Noone, who has again suffered a groin strain.

"Kevin's move to Bolton might go through and it will be a season-long loan," he said. "He is at a stage of his career where he needs to be playing regular football and we have a lot of full-backs at the club.

"Marshall tweaked something in training and we decided not to risk anything and we will give him until we go to Austria next Thursday.

"Cala and Dikgacoi are not ready to play yet, but they will get there. Maynard came through 45 minutes in midweek, but he is another player who has not had a full pre-season for a while. Rather than risk anything we left him back in Cardiff."

Solskjaer also expressed concerns about Noone, who went off during the first half in City's 3-0 win against Carmarthen Town.

"He is having another test on his groin and has not been training since our match against Carmarthen," said the City boss. "It might be a problem we might have to do something about at some point.

"He needs to work on his groins because he had a problem around March time last season and it's happened again. We will have to look into it."

Cardiff have now played two pre-season fixtures, while they go to Austria for a week-long pre-season tour next Thursday. They will play three matches while they are away and Solskjaer said he will take a large group of players.

Cala has not integrated very well into the group Steve he is a bit of a loner but I thought with Guerra and Macheda coming in would help him out, he got ability just hope he keeps it together and shines this season.

I think ole has told the players this and told him to get him involved as they've started posting pictures with him involved which is a good sign.

Any truth in Southampton offering 6.2 million for Marshall today Carl?

He posted them on his Instagram. But he posted some American photos a few days ago, then a photo of him in training then today another away. Just because he posts a photo, doesn't mean they were taken that day.

Remember Pulis said when we signed Dikagcoi he would be a good player for us as long as ole can get him fit...

He obviously has undelying injury problems or is just a lazy ****

I told you when you signed KG that he returns from summer break he is fat as f**k!

His diet must be absolutely horrendous, every manager Palace had moaned about him.

2-3 years ago he was a high energetic box to box player but last 2 seasons he just been a slow big lump who sits infront of the back 4.

I actually hope he does get back to previous fitness levels but I doubt it.

Nooney needs to cut out that drinking its f*cking his body up.

When the speculation about the three players who returned to pre-season training looking unfit first emerged, I posted on this forum that one of those would most likely be Kagisho Dikgacoi . Palace fans said that he has a history of returning after the Summer break looking overweight.
Maynard has been inactive for so long that he's no doubt lost focus - although he's still been highly paid during that time, so there's no real excuse.
Cala is the surprise one, he looked lean and fit during last season. As for being a loner.. not sure how much the language barrier has played a part in all of that?

Don't understand the SuperKev situation TBH :?

Loaned out previously, signs a new extension to his contract and then out again FOR THE SEASON, so no chance of him contributing for us...

Seems an odd one to me :?

Why's that, then, fella?? :?

Is SuperKev's move not mentioned in the OP?? :?

Quote (the OP): "Solskjaer revealed that Kevin McNaughton is set to sign for Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan, while goalkeeper David Marshall was left out because of a minor muscle strain."

Hmmm, I think it is, so hardly OT and I have mentioned it elsewhere, too! ;)

It's not in keeping with the subject matter heading of this thread. However, there is a brief mention of McNaughton, so fair enough then.

Nice one, fella

I read the OP and that was the only bit that made me stop and think. The fitness of 'some' players at this stage of proceedings is something that can be sorted by Ole and his back room team :ayatollah:
