Palace fans saying "Not Until 40"

Sat Jul 12, 2014 1:32 pm

I was talking to some palace fans yesterday afternoon at a local pub in London and they were claiming that Cardiff were not a Premier League team last year because they never proved themselves by reaching 40 points and until you reach 40 points , you cannot regard yourself as Premier League quality.
I pointed out to them that Cardiff were championship champions and Palace made it via the playoff but Palace said that makes no difference as it is what you do when you are in the premier league that counts and they reached 40 plus points claming they are therefore worthy to be classed as premier league.
I do understand their logic..I guess its just hard to accept that we never proved ourself by reaching 40 in order to be seen as PL quality.

strange as 40pnts is just an imaginary total! as could be more could be less so if they survived on 38pnts that doesnt make them premier quality by their logic! :laughing6:

It doesn't matter how many points you get, if you survive you're good enough to be in the Premier League, if you don't then you're not, it's as simple as that

Yeah I know but Palace are not talking about themselves...They are talking about us. And even if 38 to 40 points was enough to survive. Cardiff still missed that minimum target by between 8 and 10 points. Actually this last year was very unusual as 40 points was not needed because so many teams near the bottom were not performing high enough standard therefore so many teams being in the relegation battle. That makes Cardiff look in an even worse light as we did not need the usual 40 points . Instead we only needed 37 points to just about survive yet we only got 30 points!
Palace hit well above 37 ( They got 45 points) :(

tbh they are talking nonsence! cannot say we wasnt premier league team when we were playing in it? until pulis came in they were far worse than us! so if for arguement sake we survived, we were premier team even though with same team that they say wasnt a premier team, simply we were not good enough to survive while they were. thats long & short of it. :laughing6:

I think 40 points is a definition of your pedigree.
picking up that many points shows you have something about you.
if you struggle to do that then there are problems

No true. It's actually unusual to need 40 points to stay up. Only 2 occasions in the last 13 or 14 seasons has a team needed 40 points to stay up.

agree..id have been off after about 10 seconds of that convo......5 points is enough if the bottom 3 only have 4 points from drawing with each other......and i wonder if Arsenal or Man Utd fans gauge the being a real prem club on achieving 40 pts.......

I've never heard anything so ridiculous Al.They sound the type to say a horse didn't run in the National because it fell at Beaches Brooke.

You count that as running in the Grand National  bloody hell that's low expectations

I can't stand palace. I'm sure though it's mathematically possible for a team to go down with 50 points (I doubt it would ever happen given the divide between top 6/7 teams and the rest )

Yes I think the Palace fans were trying to make the point you so well articulated when you said "40 points is a definition of your pedigree" and it shows that a team have some balls.
I guess by applying that definition , Cardiff were no pedigree.

That's yet another reason they are known as Palarse ;)

After 10 games they were looking at Derby County proportions in adept FAILURE, but then a Welshman comes along and sorts them out...

Ungrateful gits!

Can't take them (or their words) seriously

So because we didn't get 40 points, we weren't a proper Prem team?

Righto, whatever!

This coming from THE original yo-yo club.

We should immediately stick 10m on top of Caulker's asking price...
