Rio Ferdinand: Expected to complete QPR move next week

QPR are expected to confirm the signing of former England captain Rio Ferdinand next week, with Steven Caulker tipped to join him at Loftus Road.

Ferdinand is available on a free transfer following his release from Manchester United and is due to complete a move back to London on a one-year deal once he returns from media duties at the World Cup.

R's boss Harry Redknapp is hopeful the former England captain's arrival will persuade Caulker to choose the west Londoners over a number of other suitors.

A fee has already been agreed with relegated Cardiff for the 22-year-old centre-back, who worked under Redknapp at Tottenham, but Everton, Liverpool and Southampton are also thought to be keen.

A fresh one-year deal remains on offer to QPR's play-off final winner, Bobby Zamora, though Championship side Millwall are interested in the striker.

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp will look to complete his move for Rio Ferdinand on a free transfer this week.
The central-defender is a free agent following his release from Manchester United last month.
Sportsmail exclusively revealed in June how Rangers had agreed a deal with Ferdinand to join ahead of next season.

But the move has been shrouded in doubt over a wage disagreement after QPR had a last-minute rethink on Ferdinand’s personal terms.
However, Redknapp believes he can still lure Ferdinand to Loftus Road and hopes to conclude a deal this week when the 35-year-old returns from Brazil following his stint as a BBC World Cup pundit.
Meanwhile, QPR have agreed a £4.78million deal in principle for Ajax striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.
