Relegated defender wants Liverpool move

Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker is hoping that Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers will make a move for him in this summer’s transfer window, and is prepared to stall on potential moves to other Premier League sides to see if Rogers wants to sign him.
Cardiff City were relegated last season despite the best efforts of Caulker, who has won plenty of admirers from clubs in the bottom half of the division. Queens Park Rangers have been most strongly linked to Caulker, with manager Harry Redknapp keen to pair him with ex England captain Rio Ferdinand. Crystal Palace are another serious option for Caulker should he want to make an immediate return to the Premier League, rather than battle for promotion with Cardiff.
Caulker’s sights are set higher though. Caulker has already made his international debut, and was highly rated at Tottenham before moving to guarantee regular football at Cardiff. He will feel he can aspire to the level of the Premier League’s top 7 clubs once again.
He previously played under Rogers at Swansea during a loan spell. His previous Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is impressed enough to attempt to sign him again, so why shouldn’t Rogers be?
Caulker may well be a possible target of Liverpool’s, but he is certainly not top of their shortlist. That spot appears to belong to Dejan Lovren of Southampton, who Liverpool have already bid £20 million for.
Should Liverpool not be able to negotiate a deal for Lovren, or any other central defensive targets, then Caulker could become a cheaper and attractive proposition.
