Relegated Cardiff gave their skipper permission to speak to the London clubs after both met his £8m release clause - and Southampton are interested too

QPR and Crystal Palace are after Caulker but he's hoping Liverpool come in

Steven Caulker has held talks with Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace, but is still considering his transfer options.

The Cardiff captain and centre-half was given permission to speak to both Premier League clubs after they met his £8million release clause at the relegated Bluebirds.

Caulker has had meetings with both the newly-promoted Hoops' manager Harry Redknapp and his counterpart at the south Londoners, Tony Pulis.

Redknapp is dangling the possibility of a partnership with vastly-experienced former England centre-back Rio Ferdinand, who is also a QPR target.

But ambitious Tottenham old boy Caulker is waiting to see if Liverpool come in for him as he played for Brendan Rodgers on loan at Swansea during his Spurs days.

Southampton are also monitoring the 22-year-od, who has one full England cap, as Liverpool want Saints defender Dejan Lovren.

Sources close to the Queens Park Rangers manager say Caulker WILL be back in London for the new season, playing alongside Rio Ferdinand

QPR boss Harry Redknapp believes he will clinch the signing of Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker for £8m over the next few days.

Sources close to the Queens Park Rangers manager say Caulker will be back in London for the new season, playing alongside Rio Ferdinand.

The deal for Ferdinand, who was released by Manchester United, has yet to be finalised and won’t be until after the World Cup ends, but Redknapp feels confident he will add Caulker to his squad quickly.

A fee has been agreed with QPR, and Bluebirds’ manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Caulker will be left to make his own decision on a move with Liverpool and Southampton also reported to be interested in the 22-year-old.

“It’s up to Steven if he goes,” said Solskjaer. “The lure of Premier League football might be too much for us to hope he might stay here. He has to make that decision.”
