Sunderland News

' Sunderland showing no more interest '

Wednesday 9th July 2014

The Gazette is reporting today that the move for Cardiff City's Jordon Mutch has got no further.

On Monday the Bluebirds played their first game of their pre-season campaign and Mutch was not included in the squad, but neither were ten other players.

But that did not stop speculation that a deal was imminent.

However, the word from Cardiff is that there has been no significant progress and they are still looking for a bid of £5 million for the 22 year old.

Sunderland have offered £3.5 million for Mutch and were immediately turned down.

Lets hope we can tie him down to new contract soon, him chipping in with goals from midfield next year could be vital.

And his wages are not the biggest £16,000 a week good value compared to many others :thumbright:

Hopefully we can get the big earners out sooner rather than later, spares up some cash to tempt Mutch to put pen to paper.

I agree, if they are going the sooner the better :thumbright:

One of the better thing to come out of last season, Annis and sure to be an asset in The Championship

Is he definitely in his last year of his contract?

If he stays fit, weve got a very good chance of coming close to promotion
really good player

It will be a big blow if he goes.

I am surprised there has not been a lot more interest in him. £3.5 million is rather insulting. We should only start showing interest in selling him around double that.

I hope we can keep him. In a couple of seasons, Sunderland will be regretting not stumping up the 5 million. I can't believe we have only asked for 5 million for him and I thought it would be inevitable a few Premiership clubs would snap him up for that price!

I'd say that 5 million is too much for him currently, seeing as he only has 12 months left on his deal. He's young & some clubs could well be willing to wait and get him to agree a Bosman move in January for the following season.

I think Mutch will stay with us because I think the guy as some integrity about him.
Judging by his twitter he comes across as someone with a good moral code. :bluescarf:

Get him tied down to a new contract already. Don't throw the book at him but offer him a big bonus if we get promoted, was one of our best PL performers. We NEED Jordon Mutch

Good news indeed. An extension would be nice to future protect his situation.

He's only going to improve next season, still so young and guna be a PL regular in years to come no doubt

He'll go I'm sure of it.

He hasn't renewed his contract with us up to now and you cannot believe for a second we haven't tried renewing. He left Brum in a flash for us. I'm sure he would jump at the chance of the Premier League. He wants to go from the way it looks.

Good player, but we have to accept £5m for an injury prone player with 12 months left on his contract. We can't do another Ledley.

SUNDERLAND ECHO

SUNDERLAND are yet to make an improved bid for midfield target Jordon Mutch, according to Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Echo revealed last week how Sunderland had seen a £3.5million offer rejected by the Bluebirds for Mutch, with Cardiff holding out for a £5m fee for the 22-year-old.

The Black Cats have been contemplating whether to meet that asking price – thought to trigger a buy-out clause in Mutch’s contract – or bide their time for the England Under-21 international, who netted seven times for the Bluebirds last season.

But Solskjaer claims there have been no “new” bids for any members of the Cardiff squad, with several players in demand after their relegation from the top flight.

“We are the team who seem to attract most speculation. It happens every day, but we are used to it,” said Solskjaer.

“There have been no new bids that I know of, although I am not the person who negotiates.

“The speculation doesn’t get to me – it’s part of the job.”

Mutch didn’t feature in Cardiff’s opening pre-season friendly against Carmarthen Town on Tuesday night, along with 10 other members of the first-team squad – including the likes of Steven Caulker and former Sunderland striker Fraizer Campbell, who are both expected to leave the club this summer.

But Solskjaer claims those players were doing extra training sessions and several could feature in this weekend’s clash with Bath City.

He added: “We decided to have 22 players against Carmarthen and give everybody 45 minutes.

“Some of those who weren’t involved against Carmarthen will play at Bath City on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s World Cup midfielder Michel Babatunde claims Sunderland are one of several Premier League clubs looking to sign him.

Babatunde made two appearances for his country at the World Cup before breaking his wrist in Nigeria’s final group game against Argentina.

The 21-year-old says his agent has subsequently been contacted by Sunderland, along with German side Schalke and several clubs in Turkey, and expects to leave Ukraine outfit Volyn Lutsk this summer.

“I have received an offer from several clubs, but the one from Sunderland is the one that interests me,” Babatunde said.

“They have contacted my agent and we will see how it goes from there.

“There are about two offers from clubs in Turkey as well, which are both under consideration and will be discussed at the right time.

“I’m probably going to leave Volyn. We have to discuss the offers on ground but, most likely, I will be leaving this summer.”

If he's in his last year then no ones gonna push the boat out regarding a transfer fee and although 16k might be good for the club a boy of his potential is worth double that in the prem.If we don't sort out a contract for the lad and he doesn't go now then he'll be gone in jan and on the cheap too.

Re: ' Good News '

it is stick or twist time with Mutch - personally I'd cash in, my thinking being we'd get naff all fee fro him in January when Sunderland come back for him then.

Or he has another month or two off with injury and we get even less for him.

I appreciate he scores some goals and can be a really positive influence going forward, but for me he tends to disappear and at times seems disinterested.

I'm sure he will get better so if he were to agree new terms that's fine, but as other posters have mentioned if he ain't up for extending his contract then the club can only do one thing and that is maximise their transfer fee.

long range shots from all over the park and hes on half the price of some *cough* kenwyne jones should be cleaning his boots for 37.50p not 37k next season.

I hope we can keep him he will play a big part for us come August. :bluescarf:

I will be delighted if the transfer window shuts and Jordans still our player.

He knows the Championship well and is one of the few players we had last season who didnt look out of place in the PL.

Still a long time to go though so im not getting my hopes up too much!

Re: ' Good News '

Sorry I have to disagree. Mutch suited the malky one up system and he almost had a free pass. As the Ole season went on he looked lost and didn't deserve his place.

If we are to play with 3 or 4 forwards, the midfield berths will need to be filled with accurate passers and tacklers, Mutch isn't either. He is a strong lad who can run with the ball and give it a clean strike. I think Ole will play 4231 and he doesn't fit in that style.

I believe he will be gone for about £4 million. His Englishness won't matter with the type of club he will end up at. The premium is on top flight English players.
