Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praises marksmen as strikers are on target in pre-season win

22 players were used in Cardiff City's 0-3 pre-season win over Carmarthen Town but that didn't get in the way of a comfortable victory

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer applauded his strikers after Cardiff City's 3-0 pre-season win against Welsh Premier League Carmarthen Town.

Nicky Maynard, Joe Mason and Federico Macheda netted City's goals at Bridge Meadow Stadium and Solskjaer said: "It's important for strikers to start well.

"When I was a player it was important to target the first few friendlies and plant a seed in the mind of the gaffer. They have done that with some good finishing.

"Adam LeFondre, too, did really well and created chances.

"The attitude of our players was outstanding and it was clear they enjoyed playing."

Cardiff used 22 players in the friendly and finished with back-up goalkeeper Ben Wilson in midfield.

"Craig Noone tweaked a groin and we took him off as a precaution," said Solskjaer. "Guido Burgstaller went on earlier than expected and played for an hour. I felt that was enough in this first match and Ben went on in midfield. He did well - and could have scored."

Spanish striker Javi Guerra did not play against Carmarthen Town and Solskjaer said: "It's been a hard first week of training and a decision was taken that he will play his first match at Bath City on Saturday."

The Bluebirds manager also revealed that Gary Medel will be back from Chile in three weeks, saying: "Gary is having treatment and will be away for another few weeks before he comes back.

"Kin Bo Kyung will be back with us for our pre-season tour to Austria. They need a break after the World Cup."

All 3 goals scored by forwards, long may that continue. Guerra still to come too, cant wait to see him in a city shirt, he's quality.
