' Southampton desperate to Sign him ' But Ive heard

Mon Jul 07, 2014 1:45 pm

I have heard Arsenal put in 2 different bids in for David Marshal, City turned both down, as did Marshal as he does not want to be NO 2. :thumbright:

Tan has honestly put a £15 mill price tag on his head.

New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is hoping to land Cardiff City's David Marshall in an £8 million deal ahead of Celtic.

Monday 7th July 2014

The Cardiff goalkeeper put in some inspired performances last season and made the most saves in the Premier League, but it wasn't enough to keep his side in the top flight and The Bluebirds are now preparing for life in the Championship once again.

Marshall has been linked with a move to Spurs and Arsenal already this summer but The Saints are now hoping to step in and land the remarkable shot-stopper for just £8 million.

However, Cardiff are not planning to lose their goalkeeper and are demanding £15 million if they are to lose Marshall, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to retain "the best goalkeeper in the Premier League" from last season.

“I am hoping to convince him to stick with us. It’s up to me really to sell the idea of what we are going to be trying to do here next season and beyond that.

“Sell my philosophy to him if you like. I know he likes it at the club and is settled in the area, so we are hopeful he will be with us next season," the Cardiff manager said.

Southampton have also been linked with a move for Celtic's Fraser Forster, who is another goalkeeper attracting interest from some top Premier League sides as Ronald Koeman is clearly searching for a new man to play between the sticks.

Artur Boruc played 29 times last season but is likely to be replaced as first-choice if Marshall joins The Saints.

Team Pos Apps Clean Sheet Saves / apps Saves per goal Accurate Goal Kicks / apps Total High Claim / apps Mins
David Marshall Cardiff GK 37 7 4.14 1.77 4.62 1.59 3,330
Artur Boruc Southampton GK 29 14 2.31 1.77 3.93 1.24 2,578

Marshall and Boruc made the same saves per goal in the Premier League last season, but the Cardiff shot-stopper made 143 saves - 81 more than Boruc's 62.

Cardiff have had a move for Southampton's Jose Fonte turned down, and there is a chance that a swap deal could see both clubs secure their targets.

Though The Saints could afford to pay the £15 million that Cardiff have valued Marshall at without losing Fonte, due to the amount of money received from outgoings with even more expected, but it is unclear whether the club will want to pay almost double the offered amount.

It will be massive if he stays , he has won points on his own for us on numerous occasions, I do think he will stay though as he is settled in the area(plus if the price tag is true then I can't see anyone paying that)

It's about time a club paid over the odds for one of our players like we've had to over the years.

For too long as talent been shipped out of the doors at CCFC for knockdown prices so I'm glad Tan has slapped a huge fee on his head. Clubs looking at him can easily afford the fee, so the moral of the story is, you want him, you bloody pay for hiM!

say what you like about tan but if he manages to keep the best PL keeper whilst being in the championship then thats very good operating indeed

£15M... not bad for a player who failed to score last season.

The OP says it all, he doesn't want to be no2. Marshall wants to be Scotland's first choice 'keeper, and sitting on a bench won't get him that. Besides, he keeps saying that his family is settled here. I'm going to Haverfordwest tonight, so if I get a chance, I'll ask him!

Southampton Ready £8m Offer For Goalkeeper

Monday 7th July 2014

Southampton are preparing an £8m offer for Cardiff City’s David Marshall.

New manager Ronald Koeman is looking to make his first signing since his appointment at St Marys and has identified the stopper as the ideal candidate.

Marshall was in outstanding form last season for the Welsh side but was unable to save them from relegation to the Championship.

According to the Daily Mail, Southampton are set to make their move for the keeper, but Cardiff are said to value Marshall closer to £15m.

The south coast club are desperate to start bringing players into the club after letting a number of their stars leave the club so far this summer.

Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana have already been sold to Liverpool, with teenage sensation Luke Shaw completing a £32m move to Manchester United.

Koeman has been promised any funds raised through player sales, and is desperate to land a keeper to strengthen his defensive steel.

If Marshall’s asking price is too high, Saints will turn their attention to Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster, after making an enquiry for the England international.

Make it 10 but 8 wouldn't be bad.

Can someone please explain why they would even give the slightest consideration to the fact that Jose Fonte would drop down to the Championship?

Money talks, manager possibly doesn't want him.
