The Don Cowie Appreciation Thread

Mon Jul 07, 2014 9:24 am

The Don wants out, Thats fair enough as he is entitled to go wherever he wants if his contracts due to expire.

Why does he want out if we made him an offer to stay? Is it because he feels under-valued and under-appreciated?

I'll stick my neck out and say we will miss him when he is gone, and especially at Championship level. I would never consider him an automatic starter because of the limitations with his footballing talent, but you know the Don will put a shift in!!

Lets look at what we are missing, a model pro who is as fit in pre-season as he is during the campaign. Never moans to the press, or about the fans who sometimes gave him grief. Aren't there going to be games where we might need to double up on a tricky winger who is causing our fullbacks all sorts of problems on the flanks? The Don is the man for the job!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Getting a large injury list, the Don is versitile and can play anywhere accross the midfield.

Is there more City fans going to get behind the campaign to get the Don to stay a bluebird, aren't we going to miss him next season??? :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Wants to play for "the" Rangers up here, so thats why he turned down our contract. TO be fair will make a decent wage playing at castle greyskull.

Was a decent player for us in the championship, often played out on the right but I felt he was better in the middle. Not flashy or a flair player but did have a crazy amount of stamina and was a proper workhorse. A good player in his time here. Cheers Don

I too would like to thank Don for his efforts. Gave everything for the club and always left the pitch knowing he couldn't of given much more. Best wishes to Don Cowie!! :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Good post mate and I totally agree. I gave my thoughts on Cowie in a different thread which I will paste onto this thread:

"I fear the loss of Cowie will hurt us a lot more than people think, as he was our one midfielder who is guaranteed to cover every blade of grass and do the unselfish, off the ball work such as tracking runners and picking up loose balls, which is exactly what is needed over a long 46 game slog in the Championship.

Cowie rarely gives the ball away, he doesn't have the pace or dribbling ability to terrorise a full back, but the shift he puts in every game and the quality he has (his cross for Whittingham's goal at Hull for example) would have made him a very important member of the squad this season.

Cowie was always a dependable team player for us and will be missed. Ole has signed some nice, talented footballers, but these players won't be able to utilise their talents without a Don Cowie on the pitch with them this season."

Totally agree with you Tonteg   something which has an undercurrent to it is that alot of fans have an affinity with players like this representing City :bluescarf: :bluescarf: If you don't have enough players like Cowie in the squad, it could become a tough season if Ole's sole focus is upon signing players to attack teams and then they give little else.

Something that puzzles me is Ole telling Odemwingie he doesn't do enough tracking back, gets rid of him to then prove himself as a class player at Stoke & WC. then signs what we all know to be one of the laziest strikers around in Kenwyn. Can't work it all out at the moment :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

He' s a decent player who works VERY hard, but he doesn't really offer anything special that would win matches.

Jones is not here to replace Peter. He got rid of Peter to make way for mats. Goes without saying that mats never would have turned down manchester united only to be benched at Cardiff all season. Jones and peter are totally differnt players. They have one thing in common though they were both shit in a Cardiff shirt. :laughing6:

He knew he would only be a bit part player here. I think that's all he will ever be at a decent club.

I'd have been happy for him to stay, useful to fill the gaps and always fit when called upon.

I'm not worried about him leaving though. Wish him well.

I gotto be honest if were serious as contenders Don had to go. Every time last year his name was on sheet it showed total lack of ambition and we would create fk all until he was subbed.

People say he runs hard and works, so does a cart horse and I wouldn't have that in my side either.

First season with Conway he was ok but offered nothing since

Good riddance to him, a headless chicken who was all over the place, one of the worst midfielders we've had in years.
