Cardiff City: 'Two or three' players disappoint boss Solskjaer
Monday 7th July 2014
Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was disappointed with the condition of "two or three" players as they began pre-season training.
The Bluebirds returned on Thursday, 3 July with Solskjaer happy with most players' levels of fitness.
But he added: "I'm not going to play players who're not fit enough for this league because you've got to be fit to play in the Championship.
"There's two or three exceptions who have to do some extra."
The former Manchester United striker did not name the players, but added he expected everyone to meet the same standards.
Cardiff's first five league games
August:
8 Fri: Blackburn (a)
16 Sat: Huddersfield (h)
19 Tues: Wigan (h)
23 Sat: Wolves (a)
30 Sat: Fulham (a)
"They know that's disappointing, but it's up to them to catch up with the rest of them," said the Dane.
Cardiff were relegated in May after one season in the Premier League and start their Championship campaign at Blackburn Rovers on Friday, 8 August.
The players have their first pre-season run out on Monday, 7 June when they face Welsh Premier League side Carmarthen Town in a friendly at Bridge Meadow Stadium.
Transfer speculation still surrounds Gary Medel, Steven Caulker and Fraizer Campbell with all three being linked with moves away from Cardiff City Stadium.
' Solskjaer's summer signings '
Javi Guerra - striker from Real Valladolid (free)
Guido Burgstaller - midfielder from Rapid Vienna (free)
Federico Macheda - striker from Manchester United (free)
Adam Le Fondre - striker from Reading (undisclosed)
Kagisho Dikgacoi - midfielder from Crystal Palace (free)
Solskjaer confirmed Cardiff have accepted a bid from Queens Park Rangers for England international defender Caulker and that clubs had made inquiries about Chile international Medel.
Both players are reported to have release clauses in their contracts which were triggered when Cardiff were relegated while striker Campbell has been linked with Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
Solskjaer did not rule out players leaving, but did not anticipate much business "coming in".
"Some players will be sold because I cannot hold a squad of around 30 outfield players - that's not possible," added Solskjaer.
"Of course if you lose too many you'll have to replace them, but I've already done a lot of business."
Three of the new recruits are strikers Javi Guerra, Adam Le Fondre and Federico Macheda.
Solskjaer has also signed Austrian midfielder Guido Burgstaller from Rapid Vienna and Kagisho Dikgacoi on a free from Crystal Palace.

I thought Jones' contract was up.
Last week we were applauding No one for putting extra more training when they returned.
Perhaps he had to. He loves his Nandos.

Kenwynne, Berget and maybe Connolly or Maynard. Maynard lose a trip to Dubai and spends more time out there than he does training
Mon Jul 07, 2014 2:55 pm
I see you're all looking for the heads of players already.
Mon Jul 07, 2014 3:13 pm
i wouldn't say Maynard, he wants to prove a point at city. and make a mark next season
Jones
Campbell
turner

This is why the manager should not make statements like this. He will create rumours about players and then rumours turn to 'fact'.

Karl,
I think the Media should not of put this out and Ole should not have said it.

Might ship these players into shape.

My money is on the new boy from Palace, Kagisho Dikgacoi. Palace fans said that he always reports back to preseason training overweight. Even Pulis hinted as much when he said that he (Dikgacoi) would be a good signing for us.. if he can get himself fit.

That's an improvement on last season when 8 or 9 players disappointed me on a regular basis.....

I wonder what reasons there is to single out Jo Inge Berget as one of those out of form?
It has been known for a good while that he did not take time off, he went to Norway and showed up for training with his old club the next day.
I think you should just lock this topic Annis, what good comes out of naming and shaming players for being unfit when we know shit all about it?
