' Inquiries made for Cardiff's Medel '

Sat Jul 05, 2014 8:20 am

Saturday 5th July 2014.

Cardiff City's Chile international midfielder Gary Medel has attracted interest from other clubs.

Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the club have had inquiries for the 26-year-old.

Medel shone as part of the defence which helped Chile to the last 16 of the World Cup, where they lost on penalties to Brazil.
Solskjaer said: "He's shown in the World Cup how good a player he us, so we'll see what will happen."
Medel featured in midfield for Cardiff last season as they were relegated from the Premier League, but was utilised in defence for his national side during the World Cup.
This led former Cardiff player Andy Legg to say the Bluebirds played Medel out of position.

Medel was Cardiff's record signing when he joined from Spanish side Sevilla for £11m in August 2013.
He arrived one week after England international defender Steven Caulker signed from Tottenham in deal worth in excess of £8m.
But now both players could be heading for the exit as it is understood the pair have release clauses in their contracts which were triggered when the Bluebirds were relegated.

Cardiff confirmed they have accepted a bid from Queens Park Rangers for Caulker and now face the prospect of losing Medel, who Solskjaer said was "exceptional" last season.

Leicester City have also triggered a release clause in striker Fraizer Campbell's contract by offering a sum close to £1m.
The Cardiff boss has been busy in the summer transfer window, signing attackers Javi Guerra, Federico Macheda and Adam Le Fondre in a bid to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Midfielders Guido Burgstaller and Kagisho Dikgacoi have also joined the club.

I'll be amazed if he doesn't end up back in spanish football, what is a certainty is we will get nowhere near the £11 million that we blew on him, after a very good world cup we might be lucky to get £6-7 million for him.

If you remember when we signed him, to a man the spanish media were amazed with how much we paid for him, when asked they all said he is a good player but probably worth around 6-8 million euros, annis we'll be lucky to get £6 million for him in my opinion if we get anymore then great.

i would be tempted to try and get a fee plus player exchange with one of the spanish clubs.

Medels had a good world cup, i can't see him staying.I'd like him to stay and he may well have if we were still in the prem but not now we've been relegated.
