Leicester C refuse to meet Fraizer Campbell's wage demands

Sat Jul 05, 2014 6:33 am

Saturday 5th July 2014

Leicester City's bid to sign striker Fraizer Campbell is in doubt after they refused to meet the player's wage demands.

City have triggered an £800,000 relegation release clause in the 26-year-old's contract with Cardiff and have made Campbell an offer.

However, City's package does not match Campbell's demands and unless either party relents, then the move will not take place, although talks are described as ongoing.

City have adopted a strict wage policy this summer to maintain some parity among the squad's earnings and to not disrupt the spirit within the camp, and are reluctant to break that wage structure.

Campbell has started pre-season training with Cardiff, who have also offered him a new contract, but he is keen to stay in the Premier League and it is understood he is also talking to Crystal Palace, who are now favourites to sign him.

City boss Nigel Pearson is a big admirer of Campbell, who came through the ranks at Manchester United, and would love to team him with his current crop of strikers.

Pearson wants to bring in at least one more striker and, despite having three bids turned down for Leonardo Ulloa by Brighton, City remain interested, although they refuse to match the £10million asking price.

Meanwhile, City have confirmed captain Wes Morgan has signed a new three-year contract.

The 30-year-old has committed his future to City until 2017 and said he was excited about leading City into the Premier League this season.

"I'm delighted to finally commit my future to this club," he said. "Winning promotion with this squad last season and lifting the Championship trophy were the proudest moments of my career and I can't wait to hopefully lead the team out on the opening day of the Premier League season.

"We've all worked so hard to win promotion. There are some big challenges ahead in the next few years and I'm excited to be part of it."

Morgan is the latest member of the Championship title-winning side to commit his future to the club.

Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Drinkwater and Matty James have signed new deals, while last season's top-scorer David Nugent has also agreed a new contract, which should be officially announced shortly.

City are also talking to Liam Moore and Jeff Schlupp's representatives, while Andy King and Jamie Vardy will discuss new deals next week.

Meanwhile, City have announced they will be unveiling the new Puma first-team strip on Saturday, July 19. The new kit is available on pre-order.

I am starting to think that City's wage bill in the next accounts are going to be diabolical.

I think your spot on Annis. Could be another reason we've had no mass movement of players leaving.

We have always been high payers when it comes to wages! We wanted to make it a good enough reason for players to come to us, we had to blow other teams out of the water!

Re: Leicester C refuse to meet Fraizer Campbell's wage deman

Sat Jul 05, 2014 8:15 am

Plus the fact that players already here just need a wage increase, and players brought in on a free or cheap can have high wages, same as paying lower wages and a high fee to buy, or high wages and low fee or free to buy

Seems a bit sad and greedy to be touting yourself to the highest bidder.Would always question player 's passion for the shirt .

nothing unusual in whats going on? it happens even at bigger clubs occasionally. its way of premier football! it eventually levels itself out and players leave when time is right. :old:

Are we saying our wage bill is diabolical but it's okay if we keep our best players?

Those two statements are at odds.

We either set a budget and therefore get rid of high earners or keep our best players and therefore accept that we will be chucking cash at it.

Cake and eat it is not an option.

Perhaps we be surprised with our starting 11 in the first game at Blackburn. Doesnt seem like clubs want to pay the wages we have be paying.

Happy to trigger such a small release clause but unhappy because he has big wages. Moronic really, I'm sure his wages would equate to what we'd sell him for? Something like 3m?

Hopefully he still goes though, don't want Campbell bleeding the club dry

Bleeding the club dry? Get a f*cking grip. :laughing6:

There's only one striker currently "bleeding this club dry" & it's Kenwyne Jones.

Campbell is on more/same amount as Jones so I'd like them both gone

Can you back this up please? Find it hard to believe. Even if it was true, Campbell gives you plenty of goals in the championship. At least you're paying for goals. Jones is the laziest waste of space I've seen since JET.

Well the forum man himself Annis said Jones was on 37.5k, Campbell is on 35k-40k. Look at Leicester as well refusing to pay Campbell's wages. And at least you're paying for goals    Campbell is one of the most least clinical finishers I have seen. Has to take a shit load of chances to convert one chance.

Oh so the person you constantly have a pop at is now your source...  what a hypocrite.

Yes, paying for goals. Glad you can read. Proven goal scorer in the championship. :D unlike you, I've actually got stats/something to back that up with. :thumbright:

Well we're all supposed to believe him aren't we so why not use him? Not a hypocrite at all. We clearly know Campbell is on a high wage as he would have been taken now if it wasn't for his high wages as he has such a low release clause, common sense

He's not a proven goal scorer in the Championship by any means, he had ONE good season with Hull and was in a highly successful team at the top who were destined for Premier League football. He's not clinical :thumbright:

absolutely is. You constantly have a pop and ridicule Annis, yet when it suits you, you're happy to use him to back up your arguments.

no we don't. You're just assuming. :thumbright: if you KNOW something, you can back it up.

absolutely he is. Every time he's been in the championship, he's had a great goals to game ratio. One season at Hull & half a season at Cardiff, where he was often isolated and playing in a defensive team. :thumbright:

Lets be honest they are both average strikers, neither is a prolific goal scorer, it's unfair to label Jones shit. At championship level he may be outstanding as he is very physical which suits the championship style of play. he could in fact be a better bet than Campbell, to bring on as an impact target man. Saying that, on the wages they are on, I would not be disapointed to see both leave.
On the Campbell transfer, it would not surprise me that he is demanding £40k a week, as his transfer fee is only £800k, plus a signing on fee no doubt. He will go eventually this season, no doubt.

There's very few clubs that would be willing to pay the reported £35,000 a week that he's earning.

The average Premiership salary is £30k a week, he is a striker who played 36 games last season?, who supposedly should have more value than 80% of the team he plays in, as in theory it's his responsibility to get the all important goals, so £35k is about right, especially as their is no real transfer fee involved. If a team could get 10-15 goals out of him, he would be worth his £35k all day long  That's a big if though, he got, what 5 goals last year?

PartyWithOle is making himself look a fool on this subject again. You'd think he'd learn to keep quiet "he's not a proven Championship striker, but does seem to score lots of goals when in this league"

The QPR issue does seem to be forming though. It's all very well having our better players, Caulker, Medel, Marshall, Campbell staying but we're not going to be able to afford to play them.

We've historically paid more on wages and it was always a vicious circle. When a jones left and the squad was so depleted a real structure should have been brought in then to prevent it from happening again .

This just reminds me of Tom Ince I'm afraid. All part of the "game" now but sad to see. Fraizer didn't have a spectacular season in the PL (for various reasons, granted). The Man C game was an exception obviously!! My guess is his agent has been pulling the strings too.
