think its operating profit being refered to! can make profit but still in debt as such large original debt in first place...

Great timing really. This season was the highest payout by a long way for PL sides, plus parachute payments. Signings so far have been sensible and high possibility of some high earners leaving.
All in all

We will not be getting increased revenue as a result of parachute payments. After taking account of those payments we will be losing a net £40 million or so in TV money payments compared to last season. Other income will also decrease because of our relegation. Unless we make a huge reduction in wage and other costs ( doesn't seem likely at the moment) and/ or sell players for a lot of money ( all of it paid up front, which is also unlikely) we will be looking at a possible substantial loss this season. We might well run into trouble with the financial fair play rules this year, just as QPR did last season. By the way I don't think the club will have made as much as £12 million profit last season. That forecast figure was based on us finishing 17th. As we finished 20th the TV money payments would have been less than expected reducing the profit to around £10 million

The table shows a difference of £3-4m between 17th and 20th place. This was still the highest payout ever to PL clubs so I don't think it is as bad as you are saying (although I don't have figures to back that up

). QPR are an extreme example of chequebook management. I hope we are not in the same category as them.

It may have been the highest payment ever but we spent nearly all of it! The hard fact is that we will be getting a lot less from that source this year so unless we drastically reduce expenditure or sell loads of players for big money we are going to make a loss.

Cardiff making a profit is good news, the problem is we have to be in the premier to achieve it so as soon we get back there the better because i can't see Vincent Tan dipping into his pocket to keep us afloat indefinitely.

Caulks and Medel look like leaving, both with high tags and wages so that's got to help. I think OGS is a lot more realistic in his budget than what we had before. The wage structure should have been tailored when we knew relegation was on the cards. Hopefully that will kick in.
The first 11 will be solid IMHO. Whether much can be cut deeper in the squad remains to be seen. I wouldn't want to risk weakening the side if retaining them means a shot at auto promotion.
