Fri Jul 04, 2014 7:29 am

I was told Craig Bellamy not only said No in December to City, but said No again in May and when I was told why, I totally understood Bellamy's reasons and respected him for them, now City are virtually saying they dont want him. Interesting

Bellamy announced his retirement at the end of May and Solskjaer has backed him to be a success when he steps into management

Solskjaer has ruled out a role for Bellamy within the club

Craig Bellamy will not be offered a route into football management at hometown club Cardiff City it has emerged.

Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ruled out a role for the frontman at the club insisting Bellamy needs to find his own path back into the game.

Bellamy, a hero in the Welsh capital after guiding the Bluebirds to Premier League promotion, announced his retirement from the game at the end of last season.

Despite his best efforts the 34-year-old could not stop the Bluebirds crashing out of the top-flight at the first time of asking.

Having already announced the end of his distinguished international career with Wales, Bellamy called time on his playing days following the Bluebirds relegation.

The aggressive frontman suffered a series of injuries right through his playing days and had required a series of operations down the years to keep on playing.

He has vowed now that despite hanging up his boots he will stay in the game and his aim is to eventually become a manager.

He has already been spoken about as a possible future manager of Wales and also perhaps one day taking charge of his beloved Bluebirds.

There was some expectation that his first step into the other side of the game might be taken at Cardiff with Bellamy possibly being found a role to work in the Academy with the club’s youngsters.

The head of the Cardiff Academy, Dick Bate, departed recently with many seeing Bellamy as perhaps the perfect replacement.

But Solskjaer has ruled out a role for Bellamy within the club.

“Craig is still thinking about the next step for him and what he wants to do next,” said Solskjaer.

“There is not currently a role he will be filling at Cardiff City. Craig is very keen to learn as he told me the last time we spoke about things.

“What he wants to do now is follow his own path and that will be elsewhere. There is still plenty for him to learn, but Craig can be a success in management I have no doubts about that.”

Bellamy enjoyed an distinguished playing career operating at the very top of the game at the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle.

He had two spells at Cardiff, a season on loan from Manchester City and then two campaigns under Malky Mackay and most recently Solskjaer.

When he announced his retirement Bellamy said he would now spend his time researching as much as he could about the coaching and a management aspects of the game.

“I’m taking my full coaching badges. I’ve got A, B and C, I just need to do the Pro-Licence which will prepare me properly for management,” said Bellamy.

“I plan to visit lots of football club, home and abroad, look at training in different sports, to broaden my knowledge. Then, when the management opportunity comes, I will be as fully prepared as possible.”

I seem to recollect that a couple of seasons ago he always said that he was going to train with coaches around the globe whilst completing his licenses in order to get the best experience. I'd love to see him back at City in a coaching role at some point and I reckon he could do a great job for our academy too.

Why is that totally different??? it seems to be exactly what both sides are saying? Bellamy was obviously asked what he wants to do and was probably offered a path with cardiff at some level, OGS says that Bellamy wants to go down his own path in terms of developing as a coach. All sides are saying the same thing, :laughing6:

Bellamy outright states in his book what his plans are, in regards to how he will get into management. Nothing seems to have changed on his side of things, looking at what he's doing now, etc.

Thanks for clearing that up bud. I have to admit these rumours tainted my opinion of him, even though I should have known they weren't exactly true.

Grateful for him dropping down a division twice to play for us. A move to Servette will be good for him. Good luck to him.
