Contract turned down and leaving :ayatollah:
Good luck Donald

Don Cowie declines Cardiff City contract offer and will leave South Wales this summer

Thursday Jul 03, 2014 By Steve Tucker

Cardiff City's hard working midfielder Don Cowie has decided against signing the contract put on the table to him by Cardiff City. He is now set to leave the club this summer.

Don Cowie will leave Cardiff City this summer Bluebirds boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

The 31-year-old midfielder had been offered a new contract in the Welsh capital, which he had looked close to signing, but the Scotland international has chosen to move on after three seasons at the club.

Since the end of the Premier League season, in-demand Cowie has been linked with moves to Rangers, Blackburn and Watford, the club he joined the Bluebirds from back in July 2011.

The crowd favourite made 99 appearances for Cardiff, scoring nine goals in the process. He had ten starts in the Bluebirds ill-fated Premier League campaign last term.

Solskjaer had hoped Cowie would remain at the club, but after the signing Kagisho Dikgacoi from Crystal Palace this simmer the Norwegian said he was content with his midfield options now and wished Cowie all the best for the future.

“Don has been a great servant to the club and a fantastic lad to have in the dressing room,” said Solskjaer.

“There was a contact there, but we have made signings now and Don wanted to keep his options open so all we can do now is wish him all the very best for the future.”

Good luck Don, could never question his application.

As much as I would've liked him to stay, it's actually refreshing to see a player that just wants to play football, much like Conway. :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

i agree, why can't people say thanks for your efforts and good luck to the future is beyond me.

Obviously Cowie is at an age that he needs regular football and maybe we could not offer him that.

Good luck Don, wherever you go.

agree always 1 clueless bellend on the forum I was a big fan of cowie nobody has his workrate in our squad and up till xnas last season he was leading assist man aswel but wer overloaded in midfield now I woulda got rid of witts for 5m when nirwich and fulham come knocking last year but I think he will have another good season this time as its his level also think gunnar will be star again we got a very good squad we can shift caulker medel on but desperately need to double marshy and mutchy wages as their irreplaceable imo

Did exceptionally well for us in the championship. All the best to him

Really quite sad that some people resort to posting abuse on the internet in the desperate search for attention

They said he wanted to speak to ogs first to know that he was guaranteed playing time. With the squad we got now he was never really gonna be a starter. Fair play.

Good luck to him, he wanted football, we couldnt guarantee it.

Best of luck to the guy, always put a shift in for us which is what we usually demand. No need to be bitter if he wants to move on.

Good luck to him, hopefully he stays in the Championship mand doesn't go to the Scottish League. Dead end up there and he's still go something to offer

It takes more than just running around non stop for 90 mins to be a good footballer.
Over rated by people who should know better
i always thought players were paid to run around, part of the job description i would imagine

Two good replies to Aramore (who constantly shows himself up on here).

I fear the loss of Cowie will hurt us a lot more than people think, as he was our one midfielder who is guaranteed to cover every blade of grass and do the unselfish, off the ball work such as tracking runners and picking up loose balls, which is exactly what is needed over a long 46 game slog in the Championship.

Cowie rarely gives the ball away, he doesn't have the pace or dribbling ability to terrorise a full back, but the shift he puts in every game and the quality he has (his cross for Whittingham's goal at Hull for example) would have made him a very important member of the squad this season.

Cowie was always a dependable team player for us and will be missed. Ole has signed some nice, talented footballers, but these players won't be able to utilise their talents without a Don Cowie on the pitch with them this season.

You are being a bit dramatic re his importance a good squad player yes, but not integral.
To be fair you can only blame cowie. He had a new contract on the table for a very long time ogs was very patient with him. If he had wanted to stay on a fight for a spot in the team he could've.

Someone got the stats up when we were in the championship.

We conceded more goals per minute with Cowie on the pitch than without him. So much for a hard working midfielder to keep things tight :ayatollah:

That's strange because Cowie was a regular starter for us in his first season when we got to playoffs and Carling Cup final. Cowie was also involved more during the first half of last season where we picked up more points than when he didn't feature as much in the second half of the season.

I'm not saying we would have picked up more points in the second half of the season if Cowie played more, because that's speculation and we lost 4-0 home to Hull with Cowie in the team. But your stat to suit your agenda of slating Cowie is very unfair. Our club achieved lots of success during Cowie's time here, which proves what a good servant Cowie was to us these past 3 seasons.

I wish Cowie the very best for the future. It's a shame players like Zaha and Kenwyne Jones didn't have Cowie's attitude, because if they did we probably wouldn't have gone down.

We will see if I'm overly dramatic or not when the season gets under way. At the moment I feel we will be a better version of Peterborough, scoring goals, stuffing some teams but also taking a few big defeats ourselves, because of tactics, lack of work rate, lack of character in the team etc. When the going gets tough in the Championship because of conditions, fixture congestions during the winter, poor pitches etc, our talented footballers like Daehli, Whittingham etc will need players around them willing to bust a gut and do the less glamorous side of the game. Cowie was one player you could rely on for this. I think under Ole, we will lose games next season simply because the opposition are more up for it on the day, wanting it more.
