It's widely regarded as a high school sport.
But this World Cup has set records for the US.
The profile of the game has probably never been higher across the pond

I spend a lot of time over in Miami and believe me it isn't just a high school sport anymore. The latin immigrants have made sure of that.
Even on the basic channels you can get 24 hour football on Fox sports which has football from around the world and compare that to other sports over there like American football, ice hockey etc which are all pay per view.
I've said for a few years that Asia isn't the market anymore it's the U.S and with more and more premier league teams going over there for pre-season then they already know about it

I think they kind of already have, mate. The MLS draws decent crowds in certain states, and the launch of the New York City franchise next year, and Beckham's upcoming one, got a lot of media attention.
The only problem they're going to really encounter is the quality of their club football. It's Championship level stuff, with a handful of superb players out there (Villa and seemingly Lampard soon to add to that), and I think that's going to work against the sport. The new fans they've created from the 2014 World Cup have partly become fans because of how good the football has been in the tournament...they might get a bit of a shock with their club football. That said, NBC have the rights to Premier League football I think, so I suspect they're planning a massive marketing push now for next month.
The MLS is a good league, just don't know what the new fans might make of it. In truth, they should move the 2022 World Cup to USA...would be a hell of an event, would benefit the sport as a whole, and might cement the game as a top sport in the US.

It's not "the MLS", it's just MLS. You wouldn't say the major league soccer draws decent crowds. Not my words by the way, just re-quoting what some US journalist said

I'm aware of that, considering it got brought up on the commentary during last nights game

Hardly a blip outside of some major cities that have been reported so to answer the original question,as a nation NO.
The US will go back to its baseball, NFL & basketball until the next world cup rolls around and that's presuming the US qualifies.

Understand your point as the immigrants will always be attracted to the major cities. Surely you would agree that Fox Sports is pushing football through especially with the growing Latino population in the U.S

NBC did a very good job with the PL last year, ten times better than the previous years when it was with Fox sports. Every game could be watched live on tv or on their app on a phone or ipad, I watched the Man city game while at Disney in Orlando.
Fox has a dedicated footbal channel ( okay soccer) but it is part of a sports package which is an extra cost and the championship down is on Bein sports which I think is on the same package but only shows whichever games are on in the UK.
ESPN have been covering the world cup and in fairness have done a good job although most back home would find the analysis very short. I have spent 10 years trying to get them to call it football but it's not happening and I noticed what I thought was a clever ad from Hyundai calling it Futbol to differentiate it from what Americans know as football.

Interesting about Hyundai ad.

Very clever ads.
They're actually for Kia, shows how much attention i paid to it, watch these & you'll know why.

Soccer here in the US is only getting bigger and bigger - sure there are issues, but there are issues in every country so it seems.
We're only going to get better as our leagues & coaching progresses...
It will still take some time, I'm not sure it will ever overthrow Football here but I can see it becoming a close 2nd in the next 20 years. Very exciting regardless
