The Bristol Post reports that City’s prospects of re-signing goalkeeper Simon Moore have today been boosted by news David Marshall will stay with Cardiff for the upcoming season.
City manager Steve Cotterill is looking to reinforce his keeping options and provide some competition for Frank Fielding as number one. Cotterill is a long time admirer of Moore and brought him in last season for a loan spell.
The move for Moore is almost entirely dependant on the future of David Marshall, whose performances in Cardiff’s relegation season have attracted numerous suitors. The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Southampton have made enquiries, but Cardiff has received no formal bids for their ‘player of the year’.
It is understood that Cardiff have been given assurances by Marshall that he wants to stay and aid them in their bid to bounce straight back up to the Premier League.
Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone on record to say that Marshall is a key player and he has no plans to sell him. Marshall is contracted to the club until the 2017/2018 season and a potential bid would have to match Cardiff’s valuation of the highly rated keeper.
Greater certainty for Marshall has a knock-on effect for Moore, who would likely stay down the pecking order at the Welsh club.
With two years left on his contract, he is likely to be made available for loan to allow Marshall and Lewis to fight for first team spots and this is seen as City’s best chance of bringing him back to Bristol.
The twenty-four year old keeper made eleven starts for The Robins last season, which helped them pull away from the Sky Bet League 1 relegation places and achieve a solid top-half finish.

I do hope he stays but if we could get around 8m for him then it makes sense to let him go. We have a big debt still.

Absolutely correct Luke.
Can't disagree with your comment and £8m I think is a little lower than I think we could possibly get.
He is in his prime and certainly proved his worth in arguably the best division in he world but that said I would still love to have him here come September

I know what you're saying but even £8 million wouldn't make much of a dent in the debt, particularly as we would have to sign a decent keeper to have a chance of getting promoted.
Better perhaps to keep him if we can and hope that he can help us get promoted again.

Out of all the players that have been linked to a move Marshall is the one we need to fight the hardest to keep, the amount of points he will save us next season could be massive In the push back for promotion to the prem.

Look at it another way.
If he wasn't your player, would you be prepared to spend £8m to sign him this season as a Championship club as that is the equivalent of what you would be doing by turning down any bid of £8m that may come (not that I think it would but that's a moot point in this scenario!)

Worth far more if he takes us back up

How many times.
Marshall is staying, he's happy here, his family are settled. He recently signed a new contract
All these moves are just PAPER TALK, we have a high valuation. David Marshall is here to stay. Don't threat

If,as quoted,Marshall's family are happy and settled in Cardiff it will say a lot about David's character if he put's his loved ones before any footballing "advancement".

8mil will hardly scratch the surface of this huge debt.
We should always try to keep our best players at the club unless it's impossible. He's worth more than 8mil if he helps us get back to the prem.

Marshall is worth 12-15 points to us in a Championship season. It's vital that we keep him.

Of course he is worth more to us if we get promoted but that could be said on any player. Someone above made a very good point in that would we sign him for 8m now as a championship club? I dont think we would.
As for it not denting the debt well I dont think thats the right way at looking at it, if we can lose Caulker 8m, medel 6/7m and Marshall 8m then it all helps at least keep it down rather than esclate it further.
We wont get value like this again for him, if we didnt go up next season his value will drop, he will be 30 by then and although not old for a keeper it isnt young for a championship keeper.
I do hope he stays as I think he is a top top keeper but I also would object to us getting a good fee for him and think he deserves his chance in the prem.

Marshall was the best keeper in the Premiership last season and should therefore be valued the same as all other top keepers in the Premiership. I wouldn't take anything less than 10 million for him.
