'Offer £5m and we'll talk'

Tue Jul 01, 2014 10:25 pm

Tuesday 01st June 2014.

Premier League Sunderland are sniffing after Cardiff City midfield maestro Jordon Mutch but the Bluebirds bosses won't even acknowledge a bid below £5m.

Cardiff City insist Sunderland's £3.5m valuation of midfield star Jordon Mutch is 'well short' of the £5m bid they would consider.

Black Cats boss Gus Poyet is keen on the Bluebird but hasn't yet made his latest bid, reported at £3.5m, official.

The Bluebirds insist though that it is will take an offer of £5m or more to tempt them into taking note.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the former Birmingham man to stay at Cardiff and Sunderland’s latest offer, expected in the coming days, won’t change his mind.

Mutch, 22, was among Cardiff’s leading lights in the Premier League last season and has a major role in Soslkjaer’s plans to take City back up at the first attempt.

Derby-born Mutch has one year left on his contract, but Solskjaer will offer him a new deal and sources in Cardiff insist Sunderland are still to register a firm offer.

He was Cardiff’s top Premier League scorer in 2013/14 with seven goals and was outstanding in both matches against Sunderland, scoring in the 2-2 draw in South Wales.

Solskjaer is already resigned to losing Fraizer Campbell to Leicester City or Crystal Palace, who have both triggered an £800,000 plus add ons release clause in his contract, plus Gary Medel and Steven Caulker, but he is intent on keeping Mutch and goalkeeper David Marshall.

5 million seems quite reasonable if you look at his age really and what he done in the Prem, if you look at the stats I can see why clubs will be sniffing.

Offer him a new contract if not already done so, if hes not interested then sell him ASAP and 5 Million seems resonable.

Very reasonable. If he refuses a new deal, sell him. He can agree terms with a new club for free from Jan.

Don't see why we haven't offered one already

Maybe we have and he wanted to see if we were to stay up first? We don't know.

We need Mutch big time if we intend to go straight back up, If we sell him, it will be more costly in the long run.

Depends on the fee. If he wants to go sell him for 5 mill or more. He isn't irreplaceable. Thought he went missing at the end of last season when it really mattered.
