Cardiff City target one more player as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer launches search for central defender.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will add one more player to complete his Cardiff City squad for the new Championship season.

The priority for Solskjaer is an experienced centre-half who will play a major role in the Bluebirds’ chase for automatic promotion.

He has a shortlist of players who have the quality to lock up City’s defence during 2014-15 and the ability to step play at Premier League level.

Steven Caulker is expected to move on and Solskjaer has drawn up a shortlist of central defenders who can step into that role.

The need for a big man to take over from Caulker, who played in all of Cardiff’s Premier League fixtures last season, means Solskjaer has put any interest in his former Manchester United team-mate Chris Eagles on hold.

Solskjaer has been linked with a move for Hamburg’s Muhamed Besic, a 21-year-old who is currently in Bosnia’s World Cup squad.

The former Ferencvaros defender is also attracting interest from Anderlecht, Borussia Monchengladbach and Fenerbahce.

Cardiff’s new transfer system means a committee comprising Solskjaer, owner Vincent Tan, chairman Mehmet Dalman and general manager Ken Choo have to agree all moves to bring in players and that has worked well this summer with Guido Burgstaller, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Adam LeFondre, Federico Macheda and Javi Guerra already added to the City squad.

Now the final pre-season task for Tan’s transfer committee is to find the right centre-half to replace Caulker in the starting line-up.

The arrival of South African Dikgacoi, a powerful and effective box-to-box midfield enforcer, means City are covered if Gary Medel moves on after his World Cup experience with Chile in Brazil.

Now the priority is to find centre-half who will surely complete Solskjaer’s signings before the new Championship season starts.

Hopefully we can get Besic in but there's too much interest from high up, hopefully English football can persuade him but we will have to move quickly to stand any chance.

He needs to ship out 6 or 7- - I'd be getting rid of at least 10!!! No sentiment in this game when you get relegated.

Hudson IMO has reached his peak, incredibly injury prone and pace is not on his side. Ben Nugent I have no faith in at all, I'd be shocked and annoyed if he was given a chance. Ben Turner - okay Championship CB but needs to sort his passing out and Juan Cala - meh, he's not exactly amazing with physical presence but sweeps up well but needs to bulk up if he's staying. Besic will probably not sign for us as I think his performances have earned himself a move back to Germany. But I'd like two new CB's, maybe a loan like Michael Keane from United? Then a free agent/cheap British center half as well, it's where we leaked goals the most

More than happy with this if we get the right guy. Besič would be amazing as long as we are prepared to pay. There will be top league sides after him too so a charm offensive will need to persuade him.

Happy that there appears to be a tighter rein on purchases. Medel likely to go and obviously Caulks..

Just hope Marshall is with us come August September.

Who came on as a sub against Chelsea was it Tom James?
Is he a full back or a central defender? Weird to bring him on if he's not going to at least get a sniff this year but gets no mention on here when talking about our defence!?

What about Wigan's Ivan Ramis? Think he failed fitness test before but seemed to do OK for Wigan late season.
