Gunnersson and the "number 10" role

i think it was the newcastle game (one of many disasters) that Gunnersson was used in this role. Just wondering if its something we will see next season too. He isnt afraid of popping up in the box and i think he got about 7 or 8 goals when we were in the championship.

People seem to think of him in the "defensive" role, but although a combative workhorse, he doesnt (for me) have the stature and strength to play deeper, also hasnt got the range of passing of many other players in the side, and his ball retention is quite poor.

For this reason i actually think he might be more suited to playing further up the field, as i said before, he seems to like getting in the box and has got on the end of a few for us previously. I dont think he would become a first team regular, it seems clear to me there will be a lot of rotation, and i think he will be useful for us next season!

I don't think we will. I think it was due to Medel's injury Ole was forced the play Mutch defensively because we had no one else to put there, other than Gunnar which he isn't good enough to do.

With Mutch there and Ole wanting to play three midfield players he was kind of forced to play Gunnar as a number ten. I think he'll be back up in that defensive midfield position with Dikcagoi. Which I felt in the final part of the 12/13 season he did quite well in.

That said if we lose Mutch he could be an option. But who knows how Ole wants to play next season, amount of strikers we have it could be 442.

Not so much in a number 10 role but I think he's best suited as a box to box midfielder. He's not afraid to put a tackle in but he also likes to get forward. I'm not sure why Ole played him in that position at Newcastle but it didn't look right for him.

Not sure what position he played against Chelsea but he had a very good game against them

Good point if we have attacking creative play in more areas next season. Which was typically low under Malky and Dave Jones (not that DJ wasn't attaching but it basically came from the two wingers and two strikers not full backs and midfield players). If Brayford and Fabio are attacking fullbacks with Dæhli, Noone, Mutch, and Guerra having Gunnar and Dikcagoi marshalling would be a good call.

The shoulder injury seemed to bother him for most of last season. Not just the lack of long throws, but in his overall game. Quite understandable, as it was a nasty bump. Hopefully, the shoulder will be stronger by next season.

Is this a joke post?? ole was crazy to play him in that position if he does again I will seriously loose faith in him.
A no 10 is typically a highly skilled technical player, someone that can dribble, has vision, pick out players with accurate passes. No 10 is a playmaker that controls the attacking play. A silva, messi, mata type player. Players of above average technical ability and vision.

Because he has bad ball control. I think at best he is backup for the new guy from palace.

He started his career as a right back. This could be the position that would see him play at his highest level. He has a good cross on him too.

Fair point mate, most midfielders were used in a deep role under malky some worked some didn't. I think whitts is also better further up the field but for different reasons

Mats is the most obvious choice for that position. He has all the skills required but we will see if ole has the balls up play him there already next season. He might prefer a bigger more physical player like Mutch. Mats though along with Kim ( if Kim could take it up a notch) are the natural no 10's in the squad.

Yeah matts would def be my first choice no.10, kim needs to find his feet because he always seems to wander and I don't think he's a natural winger but could do a job in the middle.

Where to fit everyone in? we seem to have so many cm's. Kim, matts, gunner, whitts, ekrim, medel (for now), digocek, mutch
