Kim Bo-kyung, Jordon Mutch and David Marshall – three players who could leave Cardiff City this summer

by Benjamin James

Monday 23 Jun 2014

Cardiff’s Kim Bo-kyung is currently on duty for South Korea at the World Cup (Picture: AFP/Getty Images)
With Gary Medel having one foot out of the Cardiff City exit already and Steven Caulker looking longingly towards the door, Cardiff City fans can expect players of all shapes and sizes to come and go. And with Fraizer Campbell on the verge of signing for Leicester, I’m sure he won’t be the only player to join Gary and Steven’s leaving party. Here are three players who could also leave Cardiff City.

1 Kim Bo-kyung

I’ve always rated Kimbo but, bar a couple of brilliant moments against the Manchester clubs, he struggled last season. As much as he is an incredibly skilful player, he’s very lightweight and lacks defensive nous. It also looks as if he’s a square peg to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s round hole formation. We signed him under the noses of Monaco and Borussia Dortmund and I wonder if any clubs will be sniffing around him this summer. If we get a sizeable bid for him, I wouldn’t be surprised if the club lets him go.

2 Jordon Mutch

I ruffled some feathers on Merseyside when I suggested that Jordon Mutch was having a better season than Ross Barkley. Mutch was a bright light in a dismal season for Cardiff City. He’s brave, quick, creative and scores goals. He runs at players and is strong in the tackle. He scored seven goals and created an equal number of goals. He’s young (only 23) and still ever so slightly raw. For an attacking Premier League team, like Everton, he would be a decent signing.

3. David Marshall
It’s an obvious one but the best keeper in the Premier League last year will, no doubt, attract some attention. There’s been talk of a bid from Arsenal but nothing has yet materialised. Marshall was world class last season, making save after save, and clubs will be hoping they can tempt him back into the Premier League. He’s been at Cardiff City for five seasons now and has improved year on year. He’s a keeper we can absolutely depend on. And I’m sure other clubs would feel the same.

Prob, wrong headline Wez, but I would be very disappointed if any of them did leave us, all 3 took us up last time and all 3 are good enough to do it again :thumbright: :bluescarf:

Mutch and Marsh are imperative to our upcoming season.

at end of day this article is typical of the journo who wrote it no substance just speculating on different players each time ! no player leaving city will be surprise simple as that, after all we were relegated! :laughing6:

I really hope Mutch doesn't leave but regarding marshall Ole is gonna leave the decision down to him I think but he won't leave for anything less than first team football but the only teams that are bidding for him wants him to sit on the bench, Kim I would t be too bothered about but I do like him

Re: Could there be a few shocks and these players leave City

It doesn't bother me who does to be honest, get a good price for them and I'd be happy.

4-6m for Mutch
6+ for Marshall
Kim probably a loss but get a million for him and then all three can go.

don't want to lose marshal but kimbo and mutch are a bit inconsistent

Re: Could there be a few shocks and these players leave City

Mutch is most important of the 3 for me. Goal scoring midfielders are a rare commodity and mutch falls into that category.

Kimbo has flattered to deceive and has produced some fantastic pieces of skill but is way too inconsistent.

As for Marshall he's had 2 great years. I'd be sorry to see him go but if a top club makes an offer of over 8million we should give him the option of speaking to the club due to his loyalty over past 5 or so seasons (remember he lost his place to Heaton a few years ago and never once did he moan or complain- he took the dropping and worked hard to get place back)

For me, Kim has only ever delivered in maybe a handful of games, and even then he's been in and out of them. For two years straight now, I'm been absolutely shocked at how dire his shooting is from range, and the fact it's got no better honestly makes me wonder how well he applies himself in training. I like his bits of magic as much as the next guy (that run into Man City's box, for example), but I honestly feel we could get shot of him and not even notice.

I said a few weeks back that I'd have no problem with Mutch going, as he's inconsistent. I still have that view, but I do also think that he's a useful tool for us to have in our toolbox. I think we could go up without him, but having him around would certainly give our midfield that extra bit of quality.

As for Marsh, hope to god he sticks around. The guy is perhaps the only genuine hero in our squad, and if he sticks around for a few more years I really think his name could go into City folklore.

I must agree ,I would hate to see them go. Ok Kim didnt have a great prem but dont every player have a bad season now and again.

Really don't care if Kim leaves. Has no end product and is lightweight.

Agree would prefer to keep them all,but if one had to go let it be KimBo ...?

The part where they said Mutch had a better season then Ross Barkley was the best joke I've seen on here for ages.

Re: Could there be a few shocks and these players leave City

Mon Jun 23, 2014 9:38 pm

Just don't see where Kimbo fits anymore...

I guess or hope we are going to play the german/ Bayern way of 4231. Mutch fits the middle of the 3 but so does Daelhi, but IMO it s built for Joe Mason ala Thomas Muller, not fast nor strong but bloody hell does he know where the goal is.

Marshall will only go for a genuine step up, if he gets it well done to him !!

Re: Could there be a few shocks and these players leave City

i would like to keep Marshall and Mutch becuase they simple proved themselves in the premier. If we are to go straight back up then it will be a comforting thought that we at least have a couple of players who can take the step up.

Sadly cant say the same for Kimbo. He will be ok for the championship but I would have a feeling will be left out if we go up.

Agree. Kimbo did flatter,, but was muscled out of games, even at championship level.

Marshall deserves another cack at Premier league football.

Mutch I agree with keeping,,,but he's probably the one to go first!

I hate to mention him but kind of need to so I can make my point..

Malky manages us for 2 1/2 and is to some out best ever manager. He did well taking us to the play offs and CC final, had millions to spend to take us up and just about got us there after a flying start, and (obviously in hindsight) didn't spend a big big budget as wisely as he could of looking at the teams we were promoted with (see not abusing him before I get jumped on) and judging on form it was quite likely we would of gone down.

Marshall is loyal, worked hard after being dropped and has come back 20 times better saved us valuable points on the way to promotion (we struggled for big periods contrary to popular belief) and kept our goals against down as much as humanly possible on our battering of a year in the prem...yet needs to stay to go into city folklore?

I'd say he's already there fella.

In my time following the City (since '68), I've seen some fairly decent 'keepers... Irwin, Healey, Dibble etc. Marshall is by far the best I've seen, absolutely no question about that.

Can Kim and Matts play in the same side? Very similar in many ways and if I'm being brutally honest both a little light weight for the hussle and bussle of the Championship. Personally from what I saw last year I'd rather keep Matts, Kimbo has failed to live up to potential but will leave us with that great memory of the late Man Utd leveller.
Personally I don't think Marsh will leave. Although he could push most of the premiership no.1's at this stage of his carear it's vital he plays regular first team football, he's guarenteed it here but not at any team in the prem. Also from what i've read his familly are really settled here.
Mutch is my main worry. We don't have an automatic replacement for him (although I reserve judgement on Bergerstall who I know very little about). That said I thing Ole may be looking at playing Matts behind a front two which may mean Mutch could be available at teh right price. Digachoi holding, two wide men and Mats for me but I really worry how exposed our back four will be !
