Sky Blues will host the recently relegated Premier League side at Sixfields

Coventry City have been drawn against Cardiff City in the Capital One Cup first round.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are likely to provide stiff opposition for the Sky Blues as the Manchester United legend brings his team to Northampton during the week beginning August 11.

The Bluebirds suffered relegation from the Premier League after only one season in the top-flight and were the highest ranked side in the draw.

With City expected to face a strong Cardiff outfit, we have identified five players who may be influential for the Welsh side - some who Sky Blues fans may recognise.

Five Cardiff City players to watch

Aron Gunnarsson

The classy midfielder enjoyed three successful years with the Sky Blues before moving to Cardiff in August 2011. He has since starred in the Premier League with the Bluebirds, playing 23 times in the league last term.

Ben Turner

Turner was a mainstay of the Coventry City team for six seasons after coming through the City Academy in 2005. The defender signed for Cardiff in a deal thought to be worth around £750,000 at the same time as Gunnarsson. He was a valuable part of Malky McKay's side that reached the top-flight and the made 27 starts in the Premier League last season.

Adam Le Fondre

The prolific forward was snapped up from Reading during the summer in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £3million. He will be well known to Sky Blues fans after Andy Thorn tried to sign him before he left Rotherham for the Royals in 2011. Le Fondre hit 15 goals in his 40 games for the Championship outfit during last season.

Peter Whittingham

The Nuneaton-born midfielder came through the ranks at Aston Villa but it is with Cardiff where he has made his name. Whittingham is moving into his ninth season with the Bluebirds and is likely to feature in the match at Sixfields in August.

Javi Guerra

Signed from Real Valladolid, the 32-year-old is expected to make an impression in English football after starring in La Liga. He netted 72 goals in 149 appearances during a four-year spell at the Spanish club. Depending on who Solskjaer picks for their opening game, he could be making his debut against the Sky Blues.

Went to Northampton for the league cup game at the start of our promotion season. Lost 2-1.

I think we've got a big enough squad to attempt a cup run, but I think OGS would be wise to put out week sides in both cup competitions. Not having to worry about the cups helped us in our promotion season, in my opinion.

Both CCFCs in tough times at the moment. Coventry without a ground and playing out of town and us playing in alienated colour of course.
