' Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set to appoint brother-in-law Ole Lyngvaer in Cardiff City Youth Academy post.

Reports in Norway claim

Tuesday Jun 17th 2014

By Steve Tucker

Norwegian news site VG, Lyngvaer said he " was excited by the prospect of working for the Bluebirds and linking up with his brother-in-law. "

Lyngvaer was a footballer himself with his most famous moment the brace he scored in the Norwegian cup semi-finals in 1990

Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is poised to make it a family affair at the Bluebirds by handing his brother-in-law a job at the club.

Reports in Norway suggest Ole Lyngvaer, the brother of Solskjaer’s wife Silje, will be given a position in Cardiff’s Youth Academy before the start of the new season.

It remains unclear what position the 46-year-old might hold, but recently the head of the Academy Dick Bate, who was installed by former manager Malky Mackay, left his post.

Lyngvaer was a footballer himself, but his career never hit the heights of his brother-in-law.

His most famous moment on the pitch came when he scored both goals in the Norwegian cup semi-finals in 1990. After retiring as a player he coached at Clausenengen, the club where Solskjaer began his playing career, and currently works with young players in his hometown of Kristiansund.

With Solskjaer set to move his wife and three children to South Wales this summer it looks like Lyngvaer and his family could well be joining them and he told Norwegian news site VG he was excited by the prospect of working for the Bluebirds and linking up with his brother-in-law.

“Hopefully there will be something (at Cardiff), but we do not know yet. We are looking at opportunities to move in the summer,” said Lyngvaer.

“I’m a soccer fanatic so being able to work within football is something that excites. It would be nice. In this case the goal is to be in place to start to the season. We hope that it will be something, but we do not yet know quite what my role will be in the club.”

Since arriving in the Welsh capital in January, Solskjaer has been keen to surround himself with people he trusts. He immediately installed his assistant Mark Dempsey, goalkeeping coach Richard Hartis and talent scout John Vik.

And he has also been to keen to add a number of his fellow Norwegians to the Bluebirds camp with Magnus Wolff Eikrem, Jo Inge Berget and Mats Daehli all arriving to join the Cardiff squad. The arrival of his brother-in-law would be the next step in that process.

Despite failing to keep Cardiff in the Premier League, Solskjaer retains the full backing of Cardiff owner Vincent Tan and has already made five signings this summer with the aim being to bounce straight back to the top-flight.

The arrival of his wife Silje and their three children in South Wales will be an important move for the Cardiff manager, who commented: “It means you relax more and think less football when you have family around you. When you are alone, you have nothing else apart from video chat with them to keep you going.

I am totally shocked Ian and thats not being negative, but honest and it does not look good, what has he done in professional football?

But hopefully he will turn out to be superb for the Academy :thumbright:

It's clear he has footballing experience even though he doesn't have a vast range compared to Ole but who knows, it might work :ayatollah:

Iain Moody has never played football in his life and was in fact a media worker, he was our head of recruitment.
Did it not look good then?

Well we'll wait and see what happens, I think rather than Dalman finding the right man if Ole gets sacked if we are underperforming, Tan will find his own man like Leeds have done with Hockaday or go for a big/experienced Champ name

I'm not sure why taking the piss. But the article say nothing about his credentials or his touted position.
It's like taking the piss on Delilah for taking the Celtic job ahead of Malky. You know nothing about him, but apparently someone else does.

I think it's a damn shame that Dick Bate has left the club. His appointment at the time was seen as a coup and he has a very big reputation.

Why all the negativity? If Ole didn't think he was right for the job he wouldn't have asked him

The story (above) doesn't say that though.

The most it says is that (reports in Norway suggest) the brother-in-law is hoping to work in the Cardiff City Academy. It doesn't say anything about running it and replacing Dick Bate.

Who knows if that will happen, anything is possible with our club, but the story looks to me to be just the usual 2 + 2 = 5 filler item on a slow news day.

Alex, Dick Bate was rated very highly by the staff at City.

I'm not surprised, whenever he was spoken about, it was clear that he was held in high regard.

Disappointing.

Dick Bates never played at league level and was part time with 5 non league clubs.
Didn't have a great record of staying in one place long over the last few years. Was 66 yrs old when he came from Watford. We have had better than him in the past so it's been said.
Why the doom again lighten up for gods sake.

If you aren't bothered about people that come and go at football clubs, why are you so adamant that Tan must remain, supporting the stripping of the clubs identity, in the process?!
