I don't get it, he was highly unlikely to leave in January and I just don't get why would you give him a loyalty bonus after only 1 year, I could understand 2 years having a bonus.

Apparently that's what Liverpool are waiting for before they bid for him . Honestly our club has been a total mess

IF true, probably something that was agreed in the original contract he signed... You were all delighted that we could pull off such a signing, so don't complain about it now. :old:

I don't see the problem with it. Just another stick to try and slate Malky with.

Why do you always have to bring Malky into this?! :thumbright:

What manager do you suggest that we bring in to this debate then?!  Which manager pulled off the coup... Yes, his signing was a real coup. Can hardly blame OGS can we?! :laughing5:

What a prize one.

Nobody thought we would get him when it was rumoured, everyone suggested he was too good for us, so this sort of addition may have swayed him to sign for us. Simple enough.

Bring no managers into it and talk about the bonus. Simples*. :thumbright: :laughing5:

I'll talk about the alleged bonus offer, which would have been included at the time of the record breaking deal. If that includes bringing up the man who was a key element to this contract being agreed (in Caulker's words :thumbright: ) then I shall.

Are you on about Lim now being the main man with the contract? :thumbright:

Where did I say anyone was the main man with the contract? :thumbright: I said Mackay was a key element, which he undoubtedly was, as Caulker confirmed himself in an interview, when he joined. :thumbright:

The story itself doesn't make sense. If true then it is the most useless loyalty bonus ever created.

If it was to stop him leaving in January the loyalty bonus would kick in between 1st Feb and the last competitive match of the season.

The next loyalty clause date should be 1st Sept.

Anything between is as useless as a chocolate watch.

The OP brought Malky into it.......

It's a contractual issue, all parties would have a say in it. Maybe he wasn't signing without it. Who knows and who really cares. It's modern day moneyball.

loyalty payments should be for players who have stayed with the club for a minimum of 5 years not 1

Loyalty bonus after one year ffs, if that's not taking the piss then I don't know what is. He already had a release clause and a supposedly that's only what we paid.

Spot on what? You can beat one with a stick but not the other? A bit contradictory there wouldnt you say?

Doesn't anyone else think that without certain clauses in his contract there was no way that Caulker would have signed for us. Think about it....

Where do you draw the line though, a loyalty bonus after 1 year and the leaves us 1 year and 1 day later. That's nothing more than a piss take. Staying for a season isn't loyalty it's the minimum requirement when you forking out big money and wages.

Perhaps Caulker should get a bit of stick then as yet another example of a money grabbing footballer who wins both ways.

Even if he plays in a team that gets relegated he gets a "loyalty" bonus, a fat salary for the year he's here, a move back to a Premiership club at the end of the relegation season due to a clause in his contract, a signing on fee no doubt and another Premier League contract.

Not bad eh?

EXACTLY! These type of loyalty bonuses exist in virtually every contract these days, especially when you're trying to attract a top class player to lower-half club like we were.

Not so long ago i remember people slating Malky for letting Jefferson Montero slip away because he refused to pay over the odds for bonuses/agent fees whatever it was.

He can't win either way because some people are looking for any reason to have a go at him.

Tan was quoted as the reason we din't pay for Wanyama - perhaps it was Tan who refused to pay over the odds for Montero.

Malky's record on paying over the odds was not the best it has to be said, particularly with Cornelius, Medel and even KTC
