Cardiff City: Kagisho Dikgacoi has 'tremendous potential' - Tony Pulis

Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis says Kagisho Dikgacoi will be keen to make a swift return to the Premier League with new club Cardiff City.

The 29-year-old South African was a free agent after turning down a Palace new contract and has joined Cardiff.

Pulis said the midfielder was lured by the prospect of playing for a good team on good terms.

"He is one of those players in the right situation can certainly do the job," Pulis said.
"I'm disappointed [to lose him], but can understand that [it's] a long contract and a very well paid contract.

“Physically he's a powerhouse and he's got all the attributes to do very well for them”

"I can understand why he went."
Dikgacoi, who started his youth career with Cardiff Spurs in his native South Africa, played 26 top-flight matches for Pulis's side last season.

Under the Welsh manager, Palace climbed the table to avoid relegation from the Premier League while Cardiff finished bottom and were relegated.

Pulis had been keen to keep Dikgacoi at Selhurst Park, but the South Africa international has joined the Bluebirds on a three-year deal.

"Cardiff made him a fantastic offer. Cardiff is a good football club," Pulis said.
"There's obviously tremendous potential there and he'll be desperate to get back into the Premiership.

"Physically he's a powerhouse and he's got all the attributes to do very well for them.
"If they get him fit and keep him fit he'll be a good player."

Dikgacoi is the fifth player to be signed by Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer.

Cardiff have added forwards Javi Guerra, Federico Macheda, Adam Le Fondre and midfielder Guido Burgstaller for their 2014-15 Championship campaign.

Is it true we doubled his wages to get him here?

I heard the same, we are not paying big transfer fees, but very high wages, higher than most Championship clubs.

I suppose in the short term its not that bad because if we get promoted then we won't have to worry about raising pay and it shows we are really pushing for promotion by luring these players to our team but if we don't get promoted it could cripple us financially and raise our debt by a considerable amount

I agree, your right though we need promotion next season without a doubt for many many reasons.

It's the same as paying a tranfer fee and lower wages or having him on a free and paying higher wages, obviously depends on the tranfer fee and wages

At the end of the day his value to Palace was always going to be lower. By the sounds they they will be strengthening and being in the poem gives them a hell of a lot more options. So you would think a squad player at Palace would be in less than a starter at Cardiff.
We have always paid big wages since the Sam days and for whatever reason it's always continued.

Pulis loves us!

Very complimentary about Cardiff. Looks a little bit like he still has a few issues with the Palace board - if he wanted to keep the player but the board wouldn't back that then he's going to be frustrated.

Would still like to have seen him here last season - unfortunately I think we kept Malky just a bit too long meaning Pulis took the Palace job. I'm sure he was waiting for the City job to become available but couldn't hold out when offered the Palace job.

I don't think there are many Palace fans who actually think Pulis didn't want Dikgacoi in the squad, it's a case of Palace fans in general were never overly enamored with Dikgacoi. He did the unseen dirty work on the pitch, kind of an unsung hero, who was often unfairly compared to Jedinak. Palace have a lot of central midfielders who are fan favourites at their club - Jedinak, Ledley, Johnny Williams, O'Keefe and Bannan are all very popular, hence why their fans aren't too unhappy at seeing the back of Dikgacoi. Ledley was brought in to replace him but injuries and suspensions had Ledley playing left back, left mid, second striker etc. Dikgacoi wouldn't have seen as much game time this season at Palace - this is a good move for him, especially if he has doubled his money.

Pretty much bang on from the Swansea fan above.

The problem with KG is his weight, last few years he has been fast as F**CK, someone on the palace is friends with a fitness guy who does work at palace and KG's bodyfat percentage was 29%!!

If he could get him really lean he is a good box to box player but he hasnt been that for a few years now, he is so slow and sluggish at the moment he doesnt get beyond the halfway line most games.

Every pre season he turns up blown up like a balloon, every single manager weve had has moaned about him.

"If they get him fit...." Would suggest that he does indeed have a fitness issue. Ah well, I hope the club, having signed him early, will now give him some kind of weight target and work on his condition during the pre-season. However, I sometimes wonder about our fitness staff at the club, so many of our players used to be blowing out of their arses and dead on their feet for the last 15 mins of each game - they never managed to get Medel into tip-top shape either!
