' CAULKER: SPURS V ARSENAL?? '

Wednesday 11th June 2014.

Steven Caulker is set to leave Cardiff this summer and Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs reportedly interested in his signature. Spurs simply must bring back the England star.

Caulker made 29 appearances during his time at Spurs, scoring two goals. However the Englishman left the club to seek regular first team football.

The 22-year-old joined Cardiff last summer for a fee believed to be in excess of £8 million and has scored five goals in 39 appearances.

New Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for defensive reinforcements with the London club conceding over 50 goals last season.

Moreover, Spurs ageing centre backs Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul have both been linked with exits meaning a new centre back is high on Spurs' priority for this upcoming transfer window.

Spurs are known to be interested in re-signing the defender with speculation rife that the club may have have first refusal or a buy back clause on Caulker.

Spurs will face competition from Liverpool and North London rivals Arsenal. The Spurs' faithful will be furious if Caulker is allowed to join Arsenal, such is the rivalry.

With Cardiff's relegation to the Championship it would be expected that Caulker may cost less than the £8 million that was paid for him.

Caulker is a tall, strong and is a danger from set pieces. Despite Cardiff's bad season he was nearly called up to the England squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Tottenham coach Pochetinno would give Caulker regular first team football and can improve the player as the Argentine boss put his faith in young English talent such as Luke Shaw during his time in charge at Southampton who is now being chased by the likes of Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur will regret not re-signing Caulker as it may lead to the strengthening of a rival, the England defender is also familiar with the club so will settle quickly leading to an automatic improvement on a questionable defence currently at the club making the signing a no brainer.

Rumour is Spurs didn't receive full payment for Steven.
So I would guess he will return there.

Interesting. Were payments to be made "in stages" over the term of his contract?

If so, obviously any "balance" would be paid on receipt of cash from any new transfer he makes
