City fan Martyn Edwards wanted to bring up 'the great days of old' in his song, which calls upon his memories of following the club.

Cardiff City fan Martyn Edwards has written a song that he hopes will become an anthem for all Bluebirds supporters who want to see the club return to its traditional blue colours.

The musician from Fairwater in Cardiff and his band The Lost And Found have recorded Always Be Blue, which sums up the passionate supporter's heartfelt feelings on the subject of Vincent Tan's divisive rebrand.

The song will be available to download this Friday, with 20p from every track going to Ty Hafan.

“I have stood on the terraces since the late 80s, early 90s when my father took me down the City and have been hooked ever since,” said Martyn.


“I have been nagged by friends to write a city song ever since they made the FA Cup Final and James Fox wrote Bluebirds Flying High. I just wanted to get a catchy, punchy, rocky lyric to fit.

He added: “I just wanted to bring up the great days of old and my memories of following the city. Standing on the bob bank or some open terrace in Yorkshire in the rain, snow or sunshine following our fellow heroes. With our many friends who we have met along the way.”

Edwards, who is backing the South Wales Echo's Back To Blue campaign and fans' shirt vote in conjunction with Cardiff City Supporters Trust, said he was disgusted when Vincent Tan announced he was changing the club's shirts from blue to red.

“I felt deflated, angry and lost. It just shows football is not football any more. How can a businessman with no knowledge of football, come into the club and wipe out all of its history.”

The lyrics to Always Be Blue includes some of Martyn's favourite moments from his time supporting the Bluebirds as well as tributes to the heroes of yesteryear.

“That Nathan Blake pearler against Man City is probably my all time favourite goal,” he said.

“I always loved Phil Stant, especially that he served his country in the Falklands before his footballing caree,r and I was always told about the late great Brian Clark's goal against Real Madrid by my dad. I had the pleasure of chatting to the man on Sloper Road before games and what a gent he was.”

Now the 30-year-old hopes his song will be taken to the hearts of his fellow City fans.



“I would love it to be played in the stadium, but I don't think it will - not in Tan's reign anyway. We actually took a risk and played it live in the stadium before the Wigan match in the FA Cup last season when we played ahead of the game. The stewards all looked stunned, 'can you hear what he's singing?', but we got away with it. I just hope City fans buy it, enjoy it, sing it and think of all good memories we have had.”

And the musician has no doubts that Cardiff will one day play in blue again.

“Of course. Chairmen come and go, but the fans are the heart of club. The money man who comes in will have an easy job to win fans over, just put the boys back in our blue.”

Good on them and a good song. But and a big but if I could not swim I would stay out the pool. These guys really can't sing and the guitar playing is very dodgy. Being a bit unfair here I know but love these guys sentiments and what they are singing about

Is out of tune. But its a half decent catchy song, and I would love to see some of the haters do better.
