Hereford United Expelled From Football Conference
Posted on June 10, 2014

by Steven Coney.

CRISIS club Hereford United have officially been expelled from the Football Conference after missing their latest deadline to pay football creditors.

The Bulls missed last Thursday’s deadline but were given extra time at the Conference AGM at Celtic Manor on Saturday due to the recent takeover by London businessman Tommy Agombar.

However they have once again failed to comply with the Conference’s demands and their membership from Non-League’s premier competition has been revoked.

The Edgar Street outfit were asked to prove that their £148,000 debt to football creditors was paid but they are also behind on their latest PAYE tax demand and have a winding-up order brought by former boss Martin Foyle still hanging over them.

It is expected that Chester will be reprieved and take their place back in the Conference Premier for next season. Hayes & Yeading, relegated from Conference South, are also likely to be reprieved.

It’s unclear what league, if any, Hereford will be competing in next season.

The club tweeted: “Hereford United FC has been expelled from the Football Conference.”

Very sad day for Hereford football Club, I have had many a good day there watching City over the years and great memories.

Chester FC will now be reprieved from relegation.

the sad thing is , I bet their debts are a weeks wages for some footballers. There is just too much money at the top end of the pyramid and smaller clubs just cant compete .
It wouldn't surprise me if they weren't allowed in the division below

Sadly your totally right Darren, the money needs to be a lot less at the top and more given to the smaller clubs.

He fa do not care about the smaller clubs these days, it's all about the prem and signing foreigners, no wonder england are shite and always will be.

Some people sneer when we say that there's a lot more to football than the Premier League. To see clubs like Hereford United and Chester in this situation is terrible. It's not the fans' fault, but they're the ones who suffer.

Some of us grew up watching the City play these clubs. We still talk about the City v Hereford game in 1976. 35k, ( and the rest!), for a third division game at Ninian Park.

How many of last season's games will we still be talking about in 38 years time? Perhaps Man City.

All the best to Hereford. Hope they're back soon.

Very sad Day. With all the money being thrown around in the Prem and that equates to 3 days wages for Wayne Rooney surely the League could of stepped in. Gutted for them.

Sad day indeed proper welsh haters when we used to go there fair play to them. Some of my earliest memories watching city away at Hereford. Great days following City at the lower end in the early nineties. Never forget that wet soaking Sunday when rick wright told us all not to go !

Things not looking good for Salisbury city either. Got a dodgy new owner who appears to have no money despite links to wealthy Dubai oil sheikhs

It's a very sad and emerging threat to all lower league clubs when the likes of HEREFORD UNITED cannot pay their way.

As others have commented, too much money at the top and the FA do sweet FA about it !!! MONEY, MONEY, MONEY must be funny in a rich man's world - abba bit of that you winkers at the FA.

Seems to me that all us fans are just "cash cows" these days!! :?:

There is a whole squad of English millionaires currently in Brazil that could have a whip round during their lunch and save a small club.

Hereford is the grass roots of the game that these internationals get their obscene amounts of cash from. Hereford fans will be watching their every kick over the next month but I bet the gesture will never even cross their minds.

I find it hard to understand how this relates to the topic at hand, especially as Hereford could go to the wall and would have loved just a part of the investment we have received.

This is about the real possibility of a club losing its whole club and we are still engrossed with our pettiness.

Hereford games are a fantastic part of our clubs history, I'd hate to see them go under especially for such a piddling amount.

Had some great days up there in Edgar Street (and some not) and was there last on our way to the FA Cup Final :ayatollah:

Hopefully, they will sort things out and be back where they belong in the Football League before not too long

Obviously the thread changed a bit from what it was originally about, so for that I apologise.

But remember, many of us have found the last few years very unpalatable just like you. The last few seasons, for me, have seen nowhere near the the levels of passion that I felt during seasons in the lower leagues.

I don't understand why you would think some of the memories of Hereford away games would not be great for me though.

always sad to see a club go down like this. My local side Offenbach went down in simular fashion summer 2013, and their local rivals Darmstadt stayed up as a result. And guess what, Darmstadt clinched promotion to the 2nd league in the 94th minute of the playoffs this year...so much for lucky red, as it's Offenbach's colour and Darmstadt is blue... ;)

Been to Edgar Street a few times, groundhopping during my time in Wales. Loved it there, and I dont remember any hostility or bad feelings towards the Welsh, the fans were English but with a good number of Welsh amongst them, I saw kids in Welsh shirts running around as well as kids in in England tops.
Once, I took my seat in one of the stands, with plenty of empty seats around me. A minute prior to kickoff around 20 Hereford sat down around me. As I didnt have Cardiff written on my forehead, I thought fine, but after 5 minutes I noticed the 2 next to me started to stare at me. They asked if I was a Cardiff fan, and I said yea (they spotted a badge I forgot to take off my hat). They were great, asked questions about how we are doing in the Championship, if i knew certain people as they had connections to some of the lads. They were class, could easily picked on me but we had a great chat that day.

Another trip to Hereford with a German friend of mine, one of the badge sellers recognised me. Told me to say 'Hello' to one of our old guard, so I can't say a bad word about Hereford and their fans.
Surely that would change if we play em, but that's football.

Great memories of Hereford, proper club with real fans, sad day for me...

Its so sad to see how football has gone over the last 25 years.players in the premiership earning 200k a week and clubs going out of business for less than that. Also old players selling caps, medals, shirts for a few lousy bob to keep their families supported. Why dont their old clubs buy them............leave them with the player and put them in a club presentation area or part of the ground.Football is starting to sicken me at the top level........never realy enjoyed our season up there....got far better memories of places like Hereford and plymouth. :old: :ayatollah: off now to watch my black and white tv

us fans have been "cash cows" for ever - go and read Trevor Ford's book, dedicates a whole page to what Club Directors know about football - and yes, for the kids among you, the page is blank!

I recall Bradford Park Avenue going out and Accrington Stanley - it is obviously a shame about Hereford, especially the fans, but please don't fool yourself it is anything to do with the Premier League.

As for memories - I will remember my club, the mighty Cardiff City, my father's team from when he had his first season ticket as a boy of 9 in 1921, I will remember us.

I know all about the red etc and I don't like it either - but it won't stop my pride or my passion, nothing will do that.

Hereford was my first ever away match .

What a night it was .

As a 15 year old I rememeber the train being stopped umpteen times , tight ground , two pitch invasions and then a car lot getting smashed up , being met at CCFC train station with batons and dogs ............ things have changed since then :?

Will miss Hereford - was a welsh cup match at time !!

Very sad times to see them go

I loved the ground. Unique setup, haven't seen any ground simular to Edgar Street... I hate those modern, lego-like arenas. They all look the same and no atmosphere. I want 4 sides, close to the pitch... ok, their home terrace was a bit from the pitch, but can you a name a stadium which would be simular?
