' Vincent Tan - Football Fanatic??? '

Thursday 9th June 2014.

Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan, the businessman famed for his high-waisted trousers, shades and leather gloves — was photographed with Perth Glory owner Tony Sage at nib Stadium on Friday.

It was the source of frenzied rumours among football supporters, both in Australia and the UK, that Mr Tan could be about to buy the A-League club.

However, Mr Sage has poured cold water on the speculation, saying it was nothing more than a meeting between two football-lovers.

It turns out Mr Tan has business and property interests in Perth and one of his staff used to work at Perth Italia, now Perth Soccer Club.

“We had a fantastic hour together at nib Stadium, showing him the facilities and going through what happens in the A-League,” Mr Sage said.

“There was nothing sinister about it. It’s not that he’s looking at buying clubs in Australia, or at least he didn’t say that to me.

“I didn’t realise how much of a football fanatic he is. Some of these overseas buyers of clubs in England do it for different reasons, but he is a very passionate football bloke.

“I asked him a heap of questions about how the Premier League runs and what his plans are next year for Cardiff.

“He’s going to keep-up the spend and try to get right back into the Premier League, which is fantastic news for Cardiff fans.”

For his part, Mr Sage said he remained “100 per cent committed” to Perth Glory, pointing to a recent spate of player signings.

With the youth that we developed last year we’ve now got four or five ready to go this year, and we’ve just added to the squad with four signings so far and we’re going for another couple,” he said.

If he is so passionate and loves football so much then he should have respect for a football clubs true identity and realise football is for the fans not himself
