Sunderland make £4million bid for Swansea's Ashley Williams
Wales international is a priority transfer target for Gus Poyet, who is are also tempted to make an offer for Cardiff City midfielder Jordon Mutch
Ashley Williams has rejected Swansea's offer of a new contract.

Sunderland have made a £4m bid for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams after identifying the Wales international as a priority transfer target and are also tempted to make an offer for Cardiff City midfielder Jordon Mutch.
Williams has provided Swansea with written confirmation that he has turned down their offer of a new contract and looks certain to leave South Wales this summer as he only has one year left on his contract.
At 29, Sunderland believe Williams is coming into his prime as a centre-back and also feel he has the natural leadership qualities they need in the dressing room in order to avoid yet another relegation battle.
Although Sunderland manager Gus Poyet was able to call on the services of former Manchester United and England defender Wes Brown for virtually every game last season, he is aware the 34-year-old cannot be relied on to stay injury free.
With Carlos Cuellar leaving the club this summer after his contract expired, Williams would be a welcome addition to the squad.
Gus Poyet is also very keen to sign Cardiff's Jordon Mutch and is expected to increase his offer later next week.
