Paper talk: Arsenal have £6m bid for Cardiff City keeper David Marshall rejected, Sunderland linked with Ashley Williams and Verheijen on van Gaal

By Simon Gaskell

Paper talk: Friday June 6th 2014

Arsenal have had an initial offer of around £6m rejected by Cardiff City for goalkeeper David Marshall.

The Scottish goalkeeper won rave reviews last season despite the Bluebirds being relegated, and Arsene Wenger needs competition for Wojciech Szczesny after the departure of Lukasz Fabianski to Swansea City.

Story: Daily Mail

Garry Monk has insisted he has had no contact from rivals eyeing up Wilfired Bony – and reiterated his claim Swansea City have no plans to cash-in on their World Cup star.

Bony is ready to shine for the Ivory Coast in Brazil after his 25-goal season with the Swans made him one of the most talked-about players in this summer's transfer window.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle are among the Premier League clubs to be linked with him.

Story: Western Mail

Sunderland are the latest club to show an interest in Swansea captain Ashley Williams.

The Wales international has opened talks with Swansea but has also been linked with a move away from South Wales this summer with the likes of Arsenal, Hull and QPR all linked.

And Gus Poyet is the latest manager to be alerted to his availability this summer and is said to be ready to launch a £4million offer for the central defender.

Story: Daily Mail

Ex-Wales assistant manager Raymond Verheijen has accused Louis van Gaal of working Holland's players too hard after Robin van Persie limped out of Wednesday's win over Wales.

The full extent of the Manchester United striker's injury has yet to be confirmed by the Dutch. But Verheijen believes they are paying the price for too much intensity in their training sessions.

Verheijen tweeted: "Holland looked tired and slow last night vs Wales. As expected, muscle injuries start to accumulate after weeks of intensive and double sessions."

Story: Daily Mirror

Real Madrid would have to match the £80m they paid Tottenham for Gareth Bale last summer if they want to buy Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, 27.

Marca, the Real-leaning sports daily, led with the headline 'Luis Suarez, another Bale' on Friday.

And finally...

Roy Hodgson has told England fans that his team can win the World Cup.

England’s manager highlighted the difficulties involved but added: “Why go to Brazil unless we think we can win it?”

I thought Ashley Williams was touted to be off to a certain Champions League club in North London?? :?

Seriously, I think he'd be better staying with the Jacks than moving to a Sunderland or perhaps a QPR ;)

Wouldn't surprise me is Huw Jenkins has been the one touting players to Arsenal as they keep getting linked to Swansea top players yet never any offers not for Williams, Michu or Vorm lmao swansea fans keep going on about these big clubs intrest in their players but if they where intrested they would make offers not just tell the papers whereas Huw Jenkins knows he needs to cash in when their players look good i mean who would want Michu after last season and what would they get for him compared to last season less than half the amount i feel

What benefit is it to Huw Jenkins to sell Swansea's best players?

Re: ' Todays Paper Talk on CCFC & Our Neighbours '

So they can try and find cheap replacements and try and make a profit as they always try to do

We make a profit regardless of player sales.

Doesn't stop Huw looking for bigger profit and sell players while they looked good rather than risk them be one season wonders like Michu. Thats why Bony is the only one being touted around the big clubs now yet again no offers though

Thats such a ridiculous notion. Why sell all our best players to make more of a profit? He isnt the owner so what is the point in that, its not like he can take it.

There is no "touting" going on, our players attract interest for obvious reasons. Bony was top goalscorer in the Prem since Xmas and Michu was one of the best attacking midfielders in the Prem prior to his injury. If all we wanted was cheap payers then why buy £15 - £25m of players every year? Just makes no sense sorry.

Are you suggesting big clubs aren't interested in Bony?

Where are the offers for Suarez? Ronaldo? Messi? Rooney? Aguero? Etc etc etc

Yep deluded. :D

So where's the offers same as you linked williams with top clubs yet only offers from teams like QPR. You linked michu with big clubs no offers you linked Vorm with big clubs no offers. And isn't this the Cardiff City forum why do jacks feel the need to join Cardiff pages i dont feel any need to join Swansea pages i dont care what they do to be honest im on the Cardiff pages as im a Cardiff fan dont see any point getting involved in pages not related to the club i follow

 such a stupid stance to have. Bony has had one season in the Premier League and commands a fee of £25m +. You reckon interested clubs are just going to hand over a cheque straight away?

Quite ironic you are here discussing Swansea, even if you are putting across an absolutely ridiculous viewpoint

What do you mean not at all? He was the top goalscoring midfielder in the Premier League a season after being top goalscoring midfielder in La Liga

He has been injured since.

I agree Michu has been out a bit last season but he did play a few games not that anyone would notice as he couldn't do much he played in the 1-0 loss to us and didn't do much looked quite static when he did play

Re: ' Todays Paper Talk on CCFC & Our Neighbours '

Fri Jun 06, 2014 2:09 pm

Michu played a total of 24 games scoring 6 goals last season hit injury problems are basicly a cover for how poor he played last season

Because he was injured, not sure what is confusing about this.

He played 12 times in the AMC role this season scoring 4 with 3 assists, all with him needing an operation

For a start im amazed you are trying to say 6 goals in 24 is bad for a central midfielder :D (although his record is 4 in 12 in his correct position  )

Secondly, im stunned you think he faked an operation and arthritis in his ankle because he wasnt playing as well as the season before :laughing6:

And there was me thinking your views couldnt get any more ridiculous, what were you saying about deluded and not commenting on swansea?

Acm is cm, just an attacking minded one.

And no, he doesnt play mostly as a striker at all.

Do you want to attempt to talk some sense, it may help the thread.

12 in midfield, 6 up front. Apology accepted.

And it's "you're".

Even when swansea put him ACM he's to lazy to track back so stays up front as a striker aswell anyway and his first season he played most of the season as striker last season he played alot as striker when he did play aswell funny he played 24this games last season and you come back with stats that cover 18 of them

I guess the mail lied when they called him a midfielder then?

Which part of he played 6 up front and 12 in midfield is confusing you? He has never been a striker in his while career (hes now 28) apart from half a season last year and a handful of games this season. :laughing6:
