' Michael Laudrup wants BIGGER '

Wed Jun 04, 2014 11:14 am

Thursday 5th June 2014.

Michael Laudrup has confirmed that he has his eyes on the bigger prize after his experience at Swansea:

Michael Laudrup has hit out at former club Swansea City, claiming he no longer wants to manage a smaller club.

The Dane led the Liberty Stadium outfit to Capital One Cup glory in 2013 – the club's only major trophy in their 102-year history - but was sacked by chairman Huw Jenkins in February after a poor run of form.

That was despite guiding the Swans to impressive victories over Valencia in the Europa League and Manchester United in the FA Cup.

He's been out of work since, and is targeting a return to management at one of the big clubs in Europe.

"I've had conversations with clubs in England and Spain – and now I will try very carefully not to sound or seem arrogant, because I'm not – but they are clubs at a level where I have been," Laudrup told Danish newspaper Politiken.

"I've tried the smaller clubs in the two major leagues, Getafe and Mallorca in Spain and Swansea in the Premier League, so I see no reason to repeat it.

"That leaves me with two options - to wait for an offer from a bigger club or say yes to any of the offers that have come from clubs outside Europe."

After leaving the Liberty Stadium, Laudrup was replaced by the club's former defender Garry Monk on an interim basis. Monk was later given a permanent deal after keeping his side in the Premier League.

Laudrup is a 25/1 shot to take over at Scottish side Celtic following Neil Lennon's decision to leave the club.

Always leave clubs with no such a bad reputation etc. But theirs always something gone on for him to leave which im sure puts off the bigger clubs.

He's got about sixty bigger clubs in the uk to chose from then.

What, like us?

There are no bigger clubs than Swansea in the PL who need a manager. Get real.

Laudrup is too sophisticated for Swansea! Gary monk is more suited :laughing6:

You won´t see Laudrup at Celtic. Stromsgodset´s Ronny Deila will be announced as their new manager in a couple of days.

Doubt he wants to manage Celtic. He wants a big club in a big league from the sound of it.

Good point, but they are losing squad like dandruff. Not an appealing prospect for ML.

Laudrup won them trophies. If they are settling for just keeping up then I guess monk is ok.

No, I said bigger. Not just in need of a manager. They finished 17th, -16 GD and only 3 points clear of relegation, plus players leaving.

Still bigger than the smallest club in the Premiership

No, Laudrup won them ONE trophy. He didn't win promotion of survival of the first year.

I agree Monk is untried, but so is OGS.

But Laudrup said he didn't want a small club again. He didn't say he wanted a club a bit bigger.

The implication is a BIG club. WBA? Are you serious?

Well that's not a good example either my friend. Prior to cardiff, Ogs won something every season with the teams he managed. Monk has done nothing whatsoever. Also Swansea squad was far better than ours, plus experienced in PL, so I don't consider it much of an achievement to keep them up.

What are you on about?

OGS didn't keep us up. Didn't matter what Swans had in their squad because they finished way above us. Bottom line is we finished bottom. Monk has done more in this sense. I agree that OGS has achieved elsewhere, but it is just that: Another place, another league, another standard, etc, etc.

He is still unproven in the English leagues and has some work to do on his managerial skills as well as his squad selection. Show me this post in 12 months and I will be happy to be wrong, but we have a challenge this year.

Where did I say he kept us up?
I just pointed out that Ogs has never failed until he came to cardiff. He has won plenty of titles monk has won exactly nothing . And it's pretty odd to state the quality of the squad doesn't matter. As if.

What I'm saying is that OGS has won titles which are quite irrelevant in the English PL. With respect, Monk has won survival. OGS didn't.

My statement about the squad is not odd because Swansea finished a long way ahead of us. He had money to spend in January but didn't get enough points to escape relegation. I will support the team and OGS but he is unproven as yet. If he gets promotion, then he can be considered successful.

I'm not saying he has done as well as Laudrup. Laudrup did get results for a time. I'm
Not saying Monk is amazing either. He's been there since Feb so not really tested properly.

All I'm saying is don't get carried away with OGS on past success which is largely at a lower level than Championship.

I will agree that he is the best man for us now because he has been in harness enough time to have a real feel for the club and the way forward. His acquisitions already this summer are very promising and look like excellent value for money. When we shed the high earners, he will break even quite easily.

Like I said, I will back the club and the manager.
