My opinion, Declan John will be an outstanding full-back for City in the Championship next season and I can see him eventually being worth million and he is home grown and down to earth

City full-back hopes to claim second senior cap in Amsterdam

It’s a friendly, so hopefully I can get my chance and kick-on. It’s a chance for us to get together a gel as a group."

Cardiff City’s Young Player of the Year Declan John is looking to claim a second senior cap for Wales as Chris Coleman’s side travel to face the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old Academy product is looking to complete a breakthrough season having made 20 Barclays Premier League appearances for the Bluebirds last season, claiming a first senior cap for Wales against Macedonia in October.

Now a part of Chris Coleman’s squad once again for Wales’ friendly against Louis Van Gaal’s talented Dutch squad, John told FAWales TV: “It’s a friendly, so hopefully I can get my chance and kick-on. It’s a chance for us to get together a gel as a group - hopefully we can kick-on for the next campaign, everyone’s aim is to qualify for the next tournament.

“Obviously we’ll be coming up against some top players in Amsterdam, but every International game, you know you’re going to be coming up against World Class players.”

Late withdrawals from the squad by star players Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey have opened the door for a number of youngsters at the Amsterdam Arena, with six players in the squad yet to pick up their first International cap.

Hull City’s James Chester is in the squad for the first time after declaring himself available for selection, while Newcastle United’s Paul Dummett, Manchester United’s Tom Lawrence and Fulham’s George Williams will all hope to make their mark on the International stage.

It’s an opportunity recognised by Dec, who said: “There’s obviously some big players missing, people like Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale and Gareth Davies - all big players for Wales. The younger boys coming in have got a lot to prove I suppose.

“It is however a great opportunity to play a part in Wednesday’s game. You never know, perhaps we can give the manager something to think about and give a good first impression.”

Since when has Paul dummet been welsh or have I missed something.

He is yet to convince me he is good enough. Good at running with the ball but thats about it at the moment. His passing and final ball is poor and defensively poor. I wouldnt object to us sending him out on loan for the season if we can bring in better.

Will be second choice behind Fabio IMO, Not good enough yet defensively as started out as a winger but he has time on his side to develop that side of his game.

He is, after all - a winger.

He reminds me very much of Adam Matthews. Tonnes of potential, calm in possession but prone to bad positioning at times and poor decisions.

Decision making in football at the top level is difficult to learn. I hope it just clicks one day but fear he will remain at this level or Scottish Prem

Fabio is a right back

Fabio can play either but is better at left back as he showed in our last few games in the prem.

Super Kev and Fabio for first choice next season IMO John can be backup.

Wouldn't play him at full back. Not a good enough defender. I'd have him on the wing as he's pacey and good with the ball at his feet

Bradford and Fabio first choice

I think he is ideal for Ole as a wing back, if he uses that formation again :ayatollah:

Personally, I'd go for Fabio and Brayford (no need to spend on this Bradford character when we already have quality in that position

I think for me thats the problem, not really good enough (yet) in either position. How many times did we see him make an impressive run to then make the wrong decision, either a poor cross or pass. That may come in time but im still unconvinced he will be good enough to start next season in either position.

He may have a very bright future. He has for sure lots of potential, but his potitioning has been very bad loads of times. But I do hope youre right. :thumbright:
