Because what happens is somebody gets injured or suspended an your left with Ben Nugent

My take on what is needed in defense next year is center backs with pace and skill on the ball. They will be challenged to hold their own on breakdowns with support from maybe one midfielder. We will be looking for possession play, and that will challenge them on passing. Fullbacks will need pace and stamina to contribute both in defensive and attacking play, again challenged with passing ability, keeping possession and creating chances from crossing. From what i have seen this is not the attributes we have in our team, and even with our 10 man defense they got exposed. We lost possession in the most silly way due to our passing and positioning, and rarely was that down to any tactics..

Ole wants to play a more difficult football, and I´m not sure Turner is up for it. He is praised by Ole for his attitude, but it was displayed just recently what happens when the football is too difficult for the players. Ole´s mistake last season, was not to adjust the ambitions to the quality of his players. A more mature manager would be better abled to adjust. For him it has to be "my way or the highway" if that´s the only way he knows. But I believe in his way. Then it´s just for the players to start practising. Or bring in someone already good enough.

I don't think CCFC needs a new first choice, just a new backup. Realistically only Hudson is a decent backup. So I'd say if Vegard Forren comes to fruition then it's a very strong 4 CB pool. Maybe Forren could also compete for the first team with Turner, given his very good passing foot which would fit OGS' style.

Of course, no concrete new rumours on Forren -> CCFC since last year so he could bring in anyone really.

I agree with the OP - Hudson, Nugent and Oshilaja are fine as back up.

It's the 'we need cover' player hoarding mentality that means the likes of Nugent, Oshilaja and lots of other promising youngsters don't end up getting a break. It's also the reason we have about twenty right backs...

cant say im too convinced now about Hudson, as superb as he was last time we played at this level he isnt getting any younger and has barely kicked a football in the last year.

I would be happy if we sold Hudson for a new up and coming defender, that could possibly be good enough to play in the prem in the future. The clock is ticking on Hudson, but if he stays I will not mind to much.

In the recent past we have had 1 centre back with enough pace to get out of the odd mistake, Gabbidon, Lovens, Caulker have all been quicker players. Assuming Caulker goes we don't have any CB with pace left and we will be exposed to quicker strikers on that basis.

IMO we need a young, quick and eager to learn CB to play alongside one of the boys we have currently, turner or Hudson I reckon.

Goals conceded doesn't just have to to with centre-backs.

But this Oshilaja-kid, is he any good? Haven't seen him play at all. I didn't see Hudson that much last time Cardiff played in the championship, so I judged him on his PL appearances. He was slow, and that's OK, but had horrific positioning and didn't seem to have the intelligence or other abilities to make up for it. So I hope he'll get better next season as a backup.

That's why I think a CB is needed. And OGS seems to want his players to be challenged for a spot in the starting 11.

Turner is a decent championship defender but his hoofball is morethan annoying.

Hudson I am unsure on, like people have said before he hasnt played a lot of football and isnt getting any younger

Nugent I just dont think is good enough and offered about on a free

Oshilaja ive heard good things about but Id like to see him loaned out again to continue his recent good development.

I'm sorry but as much as Id like to see Nugent break through, he's got no chance. Oshilaja to be fair to him looks to have a bright future but I think he needs a long loan spell at a League One/ lower Championship team to gain first team football.

It seems people are underestimating how hard the Championship is, if we're serious on challenging for promotion I think depending on Connolly staying or going we'll need an extra Centre Half.
