Hangeland to replace Caulker

Tue Jun 03, 2014 9:30 pm

Brede Hangeland the Norwegian international has become victim of relegation release-clause. Prob due to wages. 32 yrs, tons of experience and probably on the cheap. Good candidate for CCFC IMO.

No thanks. Injury prone, slow and will command high wages.

Why do people want every released player?

He's not good enough for Norway anymore, why on earth would CCFC want him.

Granted, I think most of his slump the past year was due to lack of motivation, maybe a move could reinvigorate him. But he's lost a lot of pace and is often caught out on the ground.

I think the general problem for Hangeland this last 12 months has been having to play differently under 3 different manager regimes at Fulham and also the "new norway" philosophy under Høgmo. Hangeland enjoys a deep back line where he can break passes quite safely and have double cover. With Høgmo as Norway manager and Magath as Fulham manager he is required to play with a higher defensive line and thus if he misses his attempted interceptions the result is catastrophic. Solskjær at Molde at least played very similar with Forren taking that role, so believeing Hangeland would fit into the Cardiff side would be a huge gamble. Some teams in the championship would be blessed to get a player like Hangeland for a year or two, but not Cardiff.

He was class a couple off seasons ago, can't see ogs going for him though too old and injury prone.

Not good enough for Norway? That is just bollocks. He's been, and still is, by far the best and most experienced norwegian player and have been so for quite a few years now. He had a tough game away against France (0-4), but he partnered with former Arsenal-youngster Havard Nordtveit and you can't put the blame entirely on Hangeland for that.

His last year has been tough, being injured for quite some time and not really regaining his best form, but the Fulham side without him was utterly hopeless. Lack of motivation I don't know about, probably not you either. His pace was never his strong side, but the way I see it he mostly did, and still can, be a top PL centre-back.

If he will fit into Cardiffs style of play, or if Cardiff even can attract him I don't know. Probably will his wages be a problem too.
