' Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is more than excited '

Tuesday 03rd June 2014

Adam Le Fondre is like I was at Manchester United, says Cardiff boss

Cardiff City boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on his new signing - comparing Adam Le Fondre to his former playing self.

The former Manchester United striker saw his Cardiff city side relegated to the Championship just five months after taking charge, and he has taken no time in preparing for a potential instant return to the Premier League.

The 27-year old Le Fondre - who arrived in Wales from Reading for an undisclosed fee - became the Bluebirds fourth signing of the season, following the arrivals of Javi Guerra, Guido Burgstaller and Federico Macheda.

It appears as if Solskjaer is preparing for life without some of his bigger names, as Steven Caulker, Gary Medel and David Marshall look set to leave the club for a return to the Premier League, and the arrival of Le Fondre - who has scored consistently in the Championship - represents a clear desire for success in the second tier.

And Solskjaer - who gained the tag of 'super sub' as he scored 126 goals in 366 games for United - believes that Le Fondre has the same natural goalscoring instinct as himself, making him a key component as Cardiff look for a top flight return.

“I think we’ve got a bit of a steal with Adam,” Solskjaer told Wales Online. “He’s proven, he’s experienced and he’s a natural goal-scorer, that’s what he’s about.

“Having been a goal-scorer myself I can see a lot of similarities between myself and Adam. Perhaps he doesn’t want the tag, but like me he has been known to come on and score a lot of goals as a sub – of course like I did. You can see he’s a natural in front of goal.

"Having spoken to him it is clear that he is someone who wants to develop and improve and we’ll of course be working hard with all our strikers to ensure we have lots of players who can consistently put the ball in the net."

The Norwegian coach also expressed that he has work to do, knowing that, despite the inclusion of top quality strikers, the entire team must work together to challenge for promotion.

"Now it’s up to us to gel as a team and create chances for these players," he said, "because that will be the key for us to challenge for promotion, it’s everyone’s main aim to get back to the Premier League.

“Because I think that was an area last year where we didn’t have the quality, the nous, the know-how in crucial games where we maybe should’ve scored the first goal.

“Then we got into situations where we had to chase games and didn’t manage to turn them around, apart from the Norwich one.

“Now I feel with the signings we’ve got, with Guido, Javi, Adam and Macheda, they are players who can take them one or two chances. Then we’ll score goals and we’ll be in a different situation."

With three strikers already brought in - Austrian international midfielder Burgstaller represents a more pragmatic move by the club - Solskjaer has clearly highlighted the goal scoring need for promotion.

Cardiff represent the near-miss potential of the Championship, with consistently high finishes finally leading way to promotion last in 2013. Fans must be hopeful that the stringent preparations by Solskjaer lead to an instant return to the riches of the Premier League.

Will Cardiff return to the Premier League at the first attempt?

Annis doesn't know anymore than you or I now. Terry Burton left a long time ago and his more recent insider has just gone to Switzerland this last month.

That's great, Annis

Any manager should be allowed the opportunity to build their own squad and at least we'll know where the 'buck' stops if it should fail!

Whatever else is said, we can't say Tan isn't 'backing' his man in the transfer market :ayatollah:

NOTE:

Nathan, this is NOT another opportunity for YOU to twist my words to suit your narrow personal agenda!
