Le Fondre's former team-mate Chris Gunter says Reading's loss is very much the Bluebirds' gain

Chris Gunter reckons Cardiff City have signed a natural born thriller in Adam Le Fondre – and admitted Reading’s loss is his former club’s gain.

Royals hitman Le Fondre became Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s fourth signing when he agreed a three-year-deal to switch to South Wales, a move reportedly worth £2.5m.

He joins Javi Guerra, Guido Burgstaller and Federico Macheda in Solskjaer’s list of new recruits, but certainly it is the surprise capture of the 27-year-old that has excited Cardiff fans with the Norweigan believing he can end the Bluebirds’ issues in front of goal.

And while he couldn’t hide his disappointment at seeing his Madejski team-mate leaving Berkshire, Gunter knows Le Fondre could be set to fire for the Bluebirds.

The frontman smashed 39 goals in 104 appearances for Reading, helping them to promotion to the Premier League in 2012 and ending as their top scorer in the top-flight. His tally of 15 couldn’t quite take Nigel Adkins’ side to the play-offs last term as Reading missed out on the final day, but former Cardiff full-back Gunter says his quality is as obvious as it is natural.

“Alfie as a player is exactly what you would think from his reputation – he is a goalscorer,” said Gunter, speaking from the Wales camp as he prepares to face the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Wednesday. “In the two seasons I was with him at Reading he was brilliant for us.

“He’s certainly not a player you need to make a load of chances for – more often than not he only needs one and he will score. He has spells in seasons were literally every little chance he gets he puts away and punishes teams.

“It’s a huge loss for us but it’s certainly Cardiff’s gain because his record speaks for itself with the goals he’s got and managing to get into double figures every year.

“I’m sure the fans there will love him because he will be on the scoresheet every week, but there’s a lot more to his game and you see that when you train with him every day.

“Whichever way you look at it it’s a good signing for Cardiff and I actually saw him the day before he went off for his medical and told him he would love it there. He was excited about going and what he could do there and as much as it’s disappointing to lose him, it is a good move for Cardiff.”

Be nice if we could sign Gunter too if he's missing ALF so much! :D :ayatollah:
