John Wittingdale MP claims Fifa should re-run the competition

UPDATED: 08:48, 1 June 2014

Former Asian Football Confederation President Mohammed Bin Hammam is alleged to have paid out £3 million in bribes to football officials to secure support for the 2022 Qatar world cup bid
Leading MPs have called on Fifa to strip Qatar of the 2022 World Cup after it emerged illicit payments of £3 million were made to corrupt officials.

John Whittingdale, chairman of the Commons culture select committee, said: 'There is now an overwhelming case that the decision to where the World Cup should be held in 2022 should be run again.'
Conservative MP Damian Collins, who submitted a private member’s bill to Parliament last month that would fight corruption in football, also called for the process to be re-run.

A damning email dossier shows how Mohamed Bin Hammam former president of the Asian Football Confederation used the slush fund to garner support for Qatar's bid to host the tournament.
The Sunday Times reports that the bribes helped sway key members of FIFA’s 24-man ruling committee into giving the green light for the Arab emirate to host the tournament, despite its lack of football infrastructure.
It is alleged that delegates who decided upon the destination of the 2022 competition were treated to lavish junkets and large cash payments to secure their support.
The secret dossier provides evidence of £3 million in cash payments to football officials across the globe in order to secure support for the Qatari bid.

When the decision was announced, there was shock as the Gulf state has no tradition of football or any suitable stadiums.

Jack Warner to fight legal action over owning luxury centre of excellence that was handed funding by FIFA
Also, concerns were raised that with temperatures exceeding 50c, it would be dangerous for both players and supporters.
During one session in 2008, Bin Hammam is believed to have handed over $200,000 in cash to 25 delegates who had been flown to Kuala Lumpur to discuss the bid.
It is alleged that African football officials received cash payments up to $80,000 from accounts controlled by Bin Hammam.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter, right, awarded the competition to Gulf state following a vote in December 2010
The disclosures come less than two weeks before Brazil is set to host the World Cup and will heap pressure on the tiny desert state.
One official sought $232,000 to be paid into his personal bank account which he said would be used to develop football pitches.
Bin Hammam was banned from world football 2011 after he was discovered bribing officials during his bid to get elected Fifa president.

Fifa is now under pressure to re-examine the Qatari bid as a result of the latest corruption allegations
The Qatari World Cup committee now face an investigation by Fifa's ethics investigator Michael Garcia.
The New York lawyer is due to fly out to the middle east next week to investigate the controversial competition bid.
Among the shocking allegations, The Sunday Times alleges that former Caribbean football chief Jack Warner was paid $450,000 before the 2010 bid.
Fifa decided to announce the winners of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids on the same day in 2010, when they awarded the competition to Russia and then Qatar.

Hope they redo the bid and either England, Holland and Belgium or Spain and Portugal get it. Would be brilliant to go to a World Cup even if Wales aren't involved

Trouble is builders have died building the stadium there. Those deaths will be in vain if the bid is overturned.

Agreed that this is really sad to lose people constructing sporting events but this cannot stop corrective action. Fifa needs a full clear out and a full democratic selection process

World Cup 2022 bid under investigation, surprise surprise. How on earth could a tournament be held there unless played during the winter months or without indoor air conditioned stadia?? Obviously FIFA representatives having been taking bribes.

Not a huge surprise but I would love a UK and Ireland one, Celtic Park and a new surface in the Millenium Stadium would be excellent accompanying Wembley, Olympic Stadium (possibly), Old Trafford and a new Anfield would be excellent.

If it does get rebid I fully expect the US to get it as they are leading they way in trying to find evidence of bribery. Should never have gone there and even though its sad that many have lost their lives trying to build the stadiums that shouldn't be used as an excuse to keep the World Cup there.

there doing away with the pallets and installing a brand new state of the art hybrid pitch at the millennium stadium over the summer which will hopefully sort out the pitch once and for all and hopefully go a long way to us having our bid excepted for hosting a few 2020 euro games :ayatollah:

I think the only surprise will be if FIFA have the balls to move it from Qatar.

Re: ' FIFA WILL BE BLOWN TO BITS WITHIN DAYS '

This is FIFA's way out. The accused has already been excluded from FIFA for bribery by their own ethics committee, FIFA know they have serious issues with the main countries in Europe having to move entire league seasons around for 2/3 years to accomadate the Qatar world cup being moved to winter. This gives them a reason to rehold the bidding process.

Strange how these damning emails were so easily available.

england will never get another world cup,, because the english press (thank god) are the ones opening the can of worms.. fifa is rotten to the core,, it was obvious from the day qatar won the so called vote..so many football nations in the world and it goes to qatar, laughable at best.. unfortunately though, even if the decision is overturned, there are a lot of top men in fifa going to be closely watched from now on,,(as i cant see them being disbanded, may sacrifice one or two but no more than that), and they will make sure that england will never get it...

Wouldn't that be justice! LOL

England could do it at 4 years notice, no problem

It has to be moved but theres probably enough grease money to keep people sufficiently apathetic within FIFA.

Rubbish, those deaths are already in vain. I doubt the people who died who were not Qatari would care or want the world cup to be there.

the biggest proof that all charges will be dropped are clear, the daily mail i believe it is, have said they have tons of emails and conversations and evidence to prove it all, however they will only release it bit by bit, and yet the man in charge of the investigation will be finished by monday. fifa cant allow a scandle like this out, especially when the likes of platini and blatter both voted for qatar.

They will release to the public bit by bit. They have turned over all their evidence already, a lot the ethics committee already had anyway they just wont be able to cover it up knowing the press have it

I think the fact blatter has come out and said the media are racist for saying there is corruption rather than saying let's look into it says eh part of the corruption for me. Sad truth is, the moment he said I'm staying on and they voted against a age limit on terms in office says that FIFA will find no corruption. All evidence will be brushed aside
