Spurs look to get Caulker to return even though Liverpool are now favourites and Swansea have now shown interest.

Tottenham target Steven Caulker transfer as Cardiff City look to reduce growing debts

Caulker was sold to the Welsh club for £9million last summer but the Welsh club are reported to be in debt after Premier League relegation

Spurs will look to bring Steven Caulker back to White Hart Lane

Steven Caulker could be making a shock return to White Hart Lane.

The central defender was sold to Cardiff for £9million last July, but after relegation the Welsh club are reported to be £160m in debt and have still to pay part of the fee for the 22-year-old.

Tottenham have the option of taking Caulker back to save Cardiff paying any more, while Liverpool are also keen on him.

The issue will be discussed by director of football Franco Baldini and Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

A Tottenham clear-out under the new boss is already underway.

Club captain Michael Dawson looks set to leave and is a target for QPR, Crystal Palace and Hull.

Too good for swansea, about right for spurs but Liverpool will probably pay over the odds for him, despite not being good enough for theml

Truth is he's too good for us now that we are 2nd tier. He will go where the wages are plus game time which could well be down the road. If he goes to Merseyside, he will warm he bench and be used for European fixtures.

The best deal for us will be a return to Spurs and the clearing of debt against his purchase.

He is a good player, will give us a reasonable return on our investment and save some wages.

I wish him well and thank him for his efforts last season. He was one of the class acts and a presence in defence.

Steven Caulker could reportedly make a return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The centre-back departed White Hart Lane last year for Cardiff City in a deal worth £9m.

However, following Cardiff's relegation to the Championship, it is believed that the Bluebirds' one-time England international will be sold to ease some of the club's debts.

Cardiff have still not paid Spurs in full for the defender, so the North Londoners could re-sign the 22-year-old to save the Welsh outfit from parting with any more money, according to The Mirror.

Liverpool are also thought to be interested in Caulker, who represented Great Britain at the 2012 London Olympics.

This option that Spurs had to buy him back was talked about when we bought him.

If it was part of the deal then whatever Liverpool bid is a mute point.

Especially if Spurs get first refusal at a fee already decided at the time of purchase.

He'd probably be better for you. Making him captain was a big mistake.

Caulker linked with Swansea City move
BY WILL MATTHEWS ⋅ JUNE 1, 2014 ⋅
Cardiff City captain Steven Caulker could be set for a move back to the Premier League with Cardiff’s arch rivals Swansea City set to make a bid for the big central defender according to reports on Wales online.

Swansea manager Garry Monk is said to be a big admirer of the no nonsense defender, and is ready to bid but faces competition from the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham. Caulker’s stock has risen throughout the last season and despite Cardiff’s slip back into the Championship earned a recall into the England setup.

Monk is a big admirer of Caulker and set to make a bid.

Swansea are said to be looking for a top class replacement for Ashley Williams after talks over a new deal have stalled and it looks more likely that he will leave the Liberty Stadium. Caulker has spent time on loan at Swansea whilst Brendan Rodgers was manager and was one of the star performers in that promotion winning side.

Rodgers himself is said to be interested in taking Caulker to Anfield as he looks to create a more formidible back line for next season.

Caulker joined Cardiff last season in an £8.5million from Tottenham, and it is said there is a clause in his contract that he can leave now the Bluebirds have been relegated from the Premier League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows he needs to take drastic cost cutting measures to his team with the likes of Marshall, Medel, Mutch and Campbell all being linked with moves away from the club.
