All bets have been stopped on his next club as it looks like he going to Liverpool. He a good player but not champions league quality!
Liverpool should be looking at bigger named and much better strikers

they should sign Kenwynne Jones from us

Correct. Lallana joined saints from Bournemouth as a 14 year old. Bournemouth have a large sell on clause (25% I think). What they will do is add lambert into deal. The joint deal will be 30 million. Lallana is worth 25 of this but they will say he is 20 and lambert 10 to reduce how much saints have to pay Bournemouth. Nothing wrong in what they are doing legally. Morally wrong in ripping off a lower league club.

Widespread reports this evening are confirming that Southampton and England striker Rickie Lambert is close to a move to Liverpool.
It marks yet another amazing career progression for a striker that was considered below the very best in England.
For Southampton it must be a real sickener, having lost Mauricio Pochettino to Spurs and with Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana set for summer exits, Lambert was one player they probably thought they could rely on for 2014/2015.
Lambert will of course give Brendan Rodgers more attacking options and could dove tail nicely with both Luis Suarez or Daniel Sturridge and should be more reliable than the likes of Iago Aspas.
With Champions League football to come, this looks like a canny squad boost for Liverpool.
And, who knows, buying Lambert now, means there is no chance of World Cup inflation should the 32-year-old’s career blossom further in Brazil.

Rickie Lambert to have Liverpool medical on Saturday?

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert will reportedly undergo a medical on Saturday ahead of his £4m switch to Liverpool.
Widespread reports emerged on Thursday evening claiming that the Reds had tabled a bid for the England striker.
The offer has now been accepted by the Saints, and the 32-year-old will leave for Merseyside for his medical, before joining back up with the England squad ahead of their trip to Miami, according to the Daily Mail.
The Anfield side are keen to seal the transfer before the World Cup starts in two weeks time, and will use the window in between Friday's friendly with Peru on Friday and their departure to America to conclude the deal.
Liverpool have also been heavily linked with a move for Lambert's teammate Adam Lallana.

I'd forgotten that. Something to do with WBA and gabby. Funnily enough Collins proved to be the better of the 2 signings.
Still wrong though.

It's called strength in depth. If they want real success in the Champions League, they need to be able to give Suarez and Sturridge a rest at some point - step in proven Premier League goalscorer Rickie Lambert.
Smart move by Brenda.

Decent signing, he knows where the net is. But paying the reported £8m for 2 years of sitting on the bench seems a bit ridiculous. Time is definitely not on Lambert's side, I think he'll only have 1 more top season left in him before dropping back down a level or two

fair play the premier league is a joke. This is what southampton get in return for having a good season.
16 teams are just there to feed the greedy poachers - you might aswell not even form any abmitions for yourself because unless your in the champions league and billionaires - your going to lose your players and management.
piss take, the same goes for us, makes no difference if we finished 20th or 8th we would of lost our star players

Fair point and unfortunately that is the way it works in the EPL.

I think we got a better 32 year old.

They should have gone for Jay Rodriguez, might have been a bit more but he has room to improve.

A lot of money for a 32 year old gamble.

£4m for Liverpool for a very decent back up striker who also helps the home grown quota is peanuts really in the big scheme of things.

Sorry, saw dando's 9 million post and assumed that was the price.
I'd say 4 million is about right, yes.

I remember being slated about 5 years or so ago for suggesting he might be a good signing for us ( on one of the other MB's run by Ms Blue ).
A lot of our experts suggesting Bristol Rovers was his limit and nowhere near good enough for us?

That was the figure banging around yesterday, I said 5 million would be the reasonable price to my mates who are a few Liverpool supporters.
There is add ons but if it's 4 million then it is a potential steal.
Liverpool are back in the CL so need to keep getting top 4 again so to have him in the Premier League games will give Liverpool depth.

Not sure where you got all that information from! I would have thought it would be confidential.
Mind you your wrong already as it's been widely reported that he's gone for 4 mill.
Lallana may end up at Spurs as well although I think he'll probably go to Liverpool due to the CL.

I know about there'll on clause as it has been widely reported plus a friend of mine was on Bournemouths books at same time and played at under 14 level. Lallana moved to saints and my mate moved to Pompey before being released and now plays for hungerford.

If anyone had said you can have Lambert for £4m last season I'd have bit their hand off. If Suarez/Sturridge are having an off day then an ideal player to have on the bench. Can see Southampton struggling this season....looks like half their team are on their way.

Saints will struggle next season but they have more fantastic kids coming through their academy. They will end up 12th or 13th.
