Don't stop at Le Fondre!

Thu May 29, 2014 10:10 am

Looking at the current plight of Leeds and Reading, I don't think we should only be looking at bringing in Le Fondre.
I'd love to see us put in a cheeky bid for Mccleary. He's quick, creative and he knows where the goal is. He's obviously good pals with Le Fondre and was tweeting about their partnership when news broke that he was about to sign. I think we could obviously get him at a cut price if we act now.

I know we are currently blessed up front but I'd still love us to make a bid for Ross Mccormack. By all accounts he was busting to come back here in January and I still think he would give anything to come back. If Fraizer goes and we sell Maynard and Joe I'd love to see Ross come back instead and I think it would probably improve us.

I also think we should pursue our apparent interest in Adam Clayton.
If we sell Mutch, Gunnar, Mason and Maynard and add Ross, Clayton and Mccleary I believe we would make a profit yet be a stronger championship squad.

I'd like to agree that we are "blessed up front" but we were woeful in front of goal last season, and our current players however promising they look have not started doing the business yet it will depend on the service they get, tactics, team selection, fitness etc so I will reserve judgement until I've seen a few games!

Tend to agree witrh this. With Oles tinkering anything is possible.

Now he has got all these options I can only see the tinkering getting worse.

I'd rather have a settled side like anyone else but on the flipside if tinkering and resting can work in any league it's the championship. The games come quick and fast and the season we went up nobody in the top 6 could win a game after Xmas!

Of course Ole would still need to get it right and some of his changes and selections were beyond bizarre last season.

I still would rather have Clayton, Ross and Mccleary in my squad than Maynard, Mason and Gunnarsson.

I would still like at least another striker and hopefully a few moved out.

Definitely need a rotation policy of some sort over 46 games I agree. My issue is more where he deploys all these players after seeing Campbell getting selected on the left wing and Gunnarsson as a Number 10 towards end of the seaon then its cause for concern. :laughing6:

I feel that OGS tinkering was the only option really he arrived late in the season and had a few mountains to climb, he had little options really. I really think he will take care of business. One huge advantage is look at the class of transfers, they WANT to play for him, thats a hell of an advantage to us in the Championship. MM struggled there.

How any manager can see Gunnarsson or Mutch for that matter as a number 10 is beyond me!
His worst formation was when he tried Mutch as a false winger or even when he set up a team low on confidence against Hull 4-4-2 with Cowie and Eikrem as the two in midfield!

I do think however that Ole had a squad that was the polar opposite to his footballing philosophy.
The fact that Medel could only play in a 4-2-3-1 system heavily restricted him and the fact that we didn't have any midfielders suited to play in a midfield 4 together killed him.
I personally think Mutch is a typical old school box to box midfielder in the style of a Lampard if he can learn to stamp his authority on a game for 90 minutes he could be an excellent player, but I think he needed someone beside him who is a bit nasty and physical and help him out a bit.

Ole seems to me like the type of guy who is willing to learn quickly ftom his mistakes (hope so anyway) so I'm hoping and the early signings are encouraging this pre season that he knows exactly what he's doing.

I agree the squad he inherited he had little choice but to tinker as they didnt suit his philosophy. Hopefully by bringing in his own players early doors he knows exactly what he wants from the outset this season and we will see less bizarre selections.

Of course the drop in level is obviously going to help as well, some of these players are going to go from being average-poor to some of the best players in the division.

I think we will be there or thereabouts but this year I think the division is far tougher than the year we got promoted.

I seem to remember Gunnarsson being played just behind the striker by Malky on numerous occasions. Not sure if it was before Mutch came or when Mutch had his long spell out with his foot injury. :ayatollah:

i dont ever recall MM using him as a No.10 but I do recall Malky using Whitts sitting and Gunnarson being given more licence to get forward rather than the other way around and thats when Whitts started to lose his way. 2nd half of the Championship winning season.

Malky ruined Whitingham , the season befor he scored 20 odd goals and then Mallky put him deeper , bizarre

I don't think Ole was using a rotational type system, more of a try players who he didn't know, in different combinations and see how they worked out together!

Although some of his selections were questionable and possibly bizarre, especially to those of us who had prior to his January squad additions, seen most of those available for selection play together, I'd imagine that he'd stick to a core of players who will play every league game, should they be fit for selection! (I hope so anyway).

Having reinforced the forward line substantially, I hope he concentrates on choosing his 4 defenders now, who will hopefully play most of our games together and one of which will be a vocal leader, which unfortunately I don't think Caulker was/is!

Does anyone think we could/should make bids for Mccleary/McCormack or any other Leeds/Reading players?

I think it depends on whether we lose the likes of Mutch and Campbell!
