Arsenal,Spurs and Liverpool are now all bidding for David Marshal.
Thursday 29th May 2914.
Cardiff's hopes of keeping Scotland international David Marshall at the club are set to be tested by Arsenal who are ready to move.
The Gunners out-of-contract goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has moved to Swansea on a four-year contract so they have a pressing need for a new keeper and Marshall has been strongly linked.
Cardiff do not want to see him move on and will hold out for as much money as they can before he is allowed to leave, although £15million appears to be a touch optimistic.
The 29-year-old cost Cardiff just £500,000 from Norwich in May 2009 and they are in no rush to sell as he only signed a new four-year contract with the Bluebirds back in February. However, the opportunity of playing for Arsene Wenger's side may prove too attractive to turn down if the Gunners come in for him.
' ARSENAL/SPURS AND LIVERPOOL WANT DAVID MARSHALL '
Arsenal are reportedly preparing a move for Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall in the summer, according to the reports in the Telegraph.
The Scottish international enjoyed a brilliant season with the Bluebirds, in spite of the club being relegated from the Premier League.
Fabianski, who started Arsenal’s FA Cup final win over Hull City, is set to leave the club on a free in the summer after rejecting a contract extension. It leaves Arsene Wenger in need of a new back-up goalkeeper to provide cover and competition for Wojciech Szczesny.
The report suggests that the Gunners are set to make a surprise move to try to sign Marshall from under the noses of north London rivals Tottenham. The Welsh club value Marshall at around £15 million, but that price tag has not put off Arsenal from targeting the experienced keeper as a replacement for Lukasz Fabianski.
It further states that Wenger has also considered Reading’s Alex McCarthy as his new deputy, but Marshall is emerging as Arsenal’s top target to replace Fabianski and the club are set to firm up their interest with Cardiff.
The Gunners are ahead of Tottenham in terms of making a move because Spurs have not given up hope of keeping Hugo Lloris, while Liverpool are very much in the periphery despite also declaring an interest in the stopper.
The 29 year old began his career with Scottish champions Celtic but later moved to Cardiff for just £500,000, where he has cemented himself as the team’s first choice goalkeeper. He recently signed a long-term contract which has enforced Cardiff’s asking-price of £15 million.
He pulled out some excellent saves consistently for the side, keeping his team in tight games and limiting the damage when Cardiff were getting battered. There is absolutely no doubting that Marshall is more than good enough to play in the Premier League and with some additional guidance could be one of the division’s best.
His acquisition will sufficiently cover for Fabianski while he will compete with Szczesny to further push him for a place. However £15 million is a bit high for a player who could well ride the bench, but keeping Szczesny on his toes would make that outcome worth the money too. The most positive result would be to see the club have two top-class goalkeepers under its command, or else is it settles for one improved alternative.
Liverpool are now also poised to start a bidding war for the Scottish International.

As much as I dont want to lose Marshall I think he deserves a big move after the way he performed last year.
He will go with best wishes from me.

Same here. Would be gutted to see him go but couldn't begrudge him a move to a big club.

Says who?
Sczeny is no great shakes, hes been dropped many times so Wenger is obviously unsure plus if Lloris moves from Spurs aas rumoured theres nothing stopping Marshall being their number 1.

He deserves another go in the prem, hope he gets a good move.

If he goes he should go as number one not bench cover. He has proven his worth. Scotland won't keep him as number one unless he is playing too.

Anything over 10 mil we should snap their hands off. 1) because Marshall deserves to be in the prem after what he's done for us, 2) The money is massive for a keeper 3) we have a ready made replacement that can perform at champ level.

In an ideal world I would like to see home go to spurs with Caulker for a combined fee of 20 million with Tottenham loaning us back Caulker for the season.
