No doubt this post will provoke raging fury and debate for most people, given that Hillsborough is very much in the news (and rightly so in my opinion) and it's a well known fact that a minority of LFC supporters helped trigger the disaster at Heysel.
However, for me - possibly like Hillsborough - the game should never have been played there in the first place. An antiquate, crumbling stadium with valid concerns about its safety and suitability well before the match - totally ignored by UEFA who for me, should shoulder just as much of the blame for what happened.
In fact, the football authorities should carry some of the blame for all three disasters in the 80s as far as I'm concerned - Valley Parade, for not ensuring that the ground was properly maintained (no build up of rubbish beneath the stand) - Heysel, for reasons mentioned above, and Hillsborough - for playing a game at a ground where concerns about crushing were raised after the previous year's FA Cup semi and putting an arguably larger group of fans in the smallest part of the ground. Say what you want about ticketless fans, the game should have been played elsewhere and at the very least, kick off should have been delayed and the entrance to the pens should have been manned by stewards and the fans directed appropriately.
I don't like comparing these disasters, especially when we should simply be remembering the dead on a day like this, but I've mentioned them all in the same breath here because people are bound to start pointing the finger at LFC fans whenever Heysel is mentioned.
Yes, they should shoulder a large part of the blame, but what I'm getting at is that the football authorities are just as much to blame for all three disasters for the reasons given.

A large group present in the ground, yes. But they are a minority in LFC's overall fandom.

For people who remember the stories coming out it sounds more like Liverpool fans were in the minority of the people who caused Hysel as for many years Chelsea fans were blamed. Apologies if you didn't mean it that way

So nothing to do with the thousands of scousers turning up pissed without tickets then.
If the ob hadn't let them in then some would have died out side.

Never the scousers fault Paul. Always the victims never their fault.
The only trouble I saw at ccs last season was them. Turning up late and attacking families. Then the bit I saw on sloper road where a group attacked a man with his mrs.
I can't stand Liverpool FC. Horrible club with horrible fans yet the media are scared to criticise them or mention any trouble involving their fans

Agree totaly.
First season in the prem when we played them there was a kid of 10 and he had a Everton top on under his jacket and with his dad.
Im close to the away fans as was this kid and one scouse spoted the top and spat and slaged him off .
The kid had to be moved as his dad was going to sl one of them for trying to get at the kid.
It was all kicking off and the ob tried to kick the fathere and a few of us for sticking up for him.
so you try and tell us the liberty is full of die hard jacks, now you tell us kids go there wearing shirts of other teams. I believe it too as I know welsh chelsea fans whos sat amonst you lot too.
In the end the dad and kid were let of as long as yhey went home.
f*cking scousers
