Reading director of football Nicky Hammond insists Adam Le Fondre's departure to Cardiff makes financial sense. The striker signed for the Welsh club on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee on Wednesday, bringing to an end a three-year stay at the Royals. Hammond told the club's official website: "I'd like to thank Alfie for everything that he has done for Reading Football Club, his application and attitude have always been first class. "We are all disappointed to see him go but in these challenging times this is a vital and necessary deal for the club and a deal that makes financial sense for both the club and the player. "We wish Alfie and his family all the best." Le Fondre tweeted: "I would like to thank everyone at Reading FC for giving me the opportunity to ply my trade at a higher level! We've created some incredible memories together which we will cherish forever!! "Also like to thank all the fans for there support they've given me through the years really made my time special for me and my family. "Unfortunately the opportunity to join Cardiff City was too good to turn down for me and my family!! "Looking forward to a new chapter in my career an working with one of my childhood heroes!! "See you back at the mad stad for a chorus of boos haha"

So much for Financial 'Fair Play' - enhanced parachute payments make us 'more equal' than a similar club in the same division.

I would say spending 1 mil so far, and potentially bringing in 20-30 mil in player sales, we dont have to worry about financial fairplay :laughing6:

Reading owe HMRC £3.25M and thier owner wants out so they need the cash bigtime. Majeski is back trying to find them a new owner but so far the only offer to buy the club has amounted to a bid of £1.

Parachute payments or not Reading appear to be in a bit of trouble with a fire sale expected unless they can get a new owner in.
