Striker joins the Bluebirds on a three-year-deal for undisclosed fee

I’m delighted to be working with Ole and I can’t wait to get started. Scoring is what I’m about."
Adam Le Fondre

Cardiff City are pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with Reading for the signing of striker Adam Le Fondre for an undisclosed fee, subject to league ratification.

Signing on a three-year-deal, the 27-year-old frontman arrives as Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s fourth signing of the summer, following Javi Guerra, Guido Burgstaller and Federico Macheda through the door at Cardiff City Stadium after successfully completing his medical.

Le Fondre arrives with an impressive scoring pedigree, proven at every level of British football. In three years at Medejski Stadium he netted 41 goals in 109 games including 12 goals in the Barclays Premier League in 2012-13.

Speaking following his move to the Welsh capital, Adam said: “It’s such a great opportunity for me to come here to Cardiff City and play for a boyhood hero of mine in Ole Gunnar Solskjær, it was a move I just couldn’t say no to.

“I’m delighted to be working with Ole and I can’t wait to get started. Scoring is what I’m about, I’ve often got into double figures during my career although looking back at last season it’s one I really wanted to score more in personally.

“They are the high standards I set myself and now the aim is to do that with Cardiff City.”

Stockport born front man Le Fondre started his career with local club Stockport County making his debut in 2004, scoring 20 goals in 91 appearances in total before joining League Two rivals Rochdale where he scored 38 goals in 67 starts for the club.

His scoring prowess continued to flourish at Rotherham United where he quickly became a Millers hero with 58 goals in just two seasons in South Yorkshire to attract the admiring eyes of clubs ready to give him a chance at a higher level.

August 2011 saw him arrive at Sky Bet Championship side Reading, scoring 12 goals as the Royals claimed promotion to the Barclays Premier League as Champions under then manager Brian McDermott.

The following year saw Le Fondre prove his credentials at the very top level, netting 14 goals in 37 appearances, despite the Royals’ struggles in the Premier League that season. It was form that continued in the Sky Bet Championship last season, netting 15 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions.

In just under three years in Berkshire Adam made 110 appearances in all competitions, 51 coming as a substitute to make his scoring tally of 41 goals from 59 starts look all the more impressive.

All at Cardiff City FC welcome Adam’s arrival and thank our colleagues at Reading for their assistance in the transfer.

Why have all our signings held the 13/14 top?

Because the new one isn't out yet?

Is Ole doing what Fat Sam appeared to be doing a couple of seasons ago, by buying all the available strikers like Sam did with Vaz Te & Maynard etc, merely to restrict all their rivals from acquiring anybody who seemed capable of scoring goals at Championship level? :)

f**k me ole only played one up top most the time but I guess its all about the money for players as before signing they know how manys here already...we got way to many as it is.

This is a great signing for us in my opinion because here we have a player who really does know how to score a goal. A pity OGS couldn't get him in January but that's water under the bridge now and if he can keep himself fit we have a 20+ striker here and that's very positive.

With Reading desperate for cash to keep HMRC at bay over a £3.25m tax bill I believe OGS has got him for less than £800k. This is probably the start of a fire sale at Reading so anyone fancy a cheeky bid for Gunter.

Yep, but I just find it strange they are doing that, considering we aren't going to be playing in it next year.

Yes, and we are probably keeping them all!? The club might have an idea of who is staying and who is not. After all we scored magnificent 105 goals in our last two seasons and lots of quality in the squad

It's gonna be different in the championship he will play 2 strikers and rotate. IMO.

Obviously it's pure guess work, god knows what Ole has up his sleeve for this season but IF we go with 2 up top, what formation do you think he will go with ? Diamond midfield, old fashioned 4-4-2, 3-5-2 etc ?

I just hope Ole has a clear vision and philosophy in mind and goes with it. Last season it kind of felt like we didn't believe in what we were trying to do and kept chopping and changing, this season it's vital he puts his own stamp on things and gets the whole squad to believe in it.

Welcome by the way ALF. :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Wants out and doesn't fancy putting anymore money in. Madjeski has been brought back to find another owner but the only offer on the table amounts to only £1 and the Russian doesn't fancy writing off his investment.

Uncertain times at Reading to say the least.

Madjeski has lost loads of money. Down from 900mill to 100mill according to my father in law whos a avid reading fan.
It was in the local rag down there and on tv. Seems hes lost it in very bad investments.
The Russian fella is a crook who hasn't been at reading since last year.
But this week a new twist as some yank investors flew in by copter to the madjeski to purchase the club.

Looks like he's working on the basis that Campbell is likely to go. I see an off the bench role for Kenwynne Jones, but I suspect Mason may also be on his way. Don't forget we also have Maynard, another proven goalscorer at Championship level. Exciting times, and it isn't even June yet! :ole:

BACK OF THE NET!

Hopefully!

A quality signing. A front line to be feared next season. No way is OGS going to play one up front with this firepower available.

Excited now.

I'm delighted we've made this signing, as I wanted us to go in for him 12 months ago. He'll bag us goals, no doubt about that.

Loving how many signings we've made already - OGS clearly DID prepare for relegation long before it was confirmed, judging from all this early transfer business.

Speaking of Ole, gotta admire the respect players have for him. Without question, he's bringing in a different caliber of player simply based on his own reputation.

it makes sense that we're bringing in players before we let any go... we always make the mistake of selling players before we have a replacement in, so OGS is doing it the right way and should be applauded for that and doing it so fast! :bluescarf:

Maybe one of the Norwegians have a better idea what formations he prefers ?

4-3- 1-2 maybe? guerra and macheda, daehli in an advanced attacking midfield position, with a holding midfielder behind. Noone and the new Austrian left winger out wide. I have a feeling he doesn't stick to one formation though. :laughing6:

Re: ' Official: Cardiff City's Fourth Signing '

Cardiff City have signed Reading stiker Adam Le Fondre for an undisclosed fee, with the 27-year-old becoming the club's fourth signing in seven days.

Le Fondre joins Javi Guerra, Guido Burgstaller and Federico Macheda in the Welsh capital, with all of them having signed for the Bluebirds in the past week.

It throws the futures of both Kenwyne Jones and Fraizer Campbell into doubt, with the latter being chased by a host of Premier League clubs including West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland.

In what has already become a busy transfer period for Cardiff, the club are still likely to lose their stronger calibre of player such as Steven Caulker, Gary Medel and David Marshall. But manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not taking any chances, and has begun the recruitment process early.

Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban is also thought to be an imminent arrival, with a fee having been agreed between the two clubs. Grabban’s arrival would make him the sixth striker at the the Cardiff City stadium.

The newest arrival, Le Fondre, has scored 41 goals over the last three seasons with Reading, including 12 in the Premier League with the Royals. Previous spells at Stockport, Rochdale and Rotherham have also seen Le Fondre score goals wherever he has played.

Solskjaer used to play 4-3-3 in Molde, but they were a counter-attacking team with INCREDIBLY fast wingers (faster than noone and definitely faster than Daehli). Not sure what he will do with CFC, probably a regular 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 (depending on the match), maybe a defensive midfielder on tough away games.
