LE FONDRE

Totally and utterly underwhelmed.

For me Maynard is a better option than this guy.

Totally agree. Le Fondre and Macheda are no improvements over our current strikers of Maynard, Campbell, Guerra and Mason imo.

You pair have no idea!

Re: LE FONDRE

Wed May 28, 2014 11:15 am

Le Fondre is better than Maynard in the most important stat, goal scoring.

Re: LE FONDRE

Wed May 28, 2014 11:16 am

Guerra.
Le Fondre.
Macheda.

£1m fee paid.

Underwhelmed.

Hahahaha.

I'll give the guy a chance if he does sign but I agree that Maynard is a much better player. It's a shame that Maynard got injured after just 3 games when he first signed. By the time he was fit we were promoted and he wasn't given a chance in the Prem. If Nicky Maynard is injury free and match fit (he looked a little off the pace when I saw him for Wigan) he will score a shed load of goals in the championship. I hope Ole gives him a chance as he is a natural goal scorer :bluescarf:

The more options the better

Re: LE FONDRE

Wed May 28, 2014 11:20 am

I'd be quite happy if our strike force was
Guerra, le fondre, macheda and 1 of mason, Maynard or Campbell

What have Guerra and Macheda got to do with it? I only mentioned Le Fondre.

We have spent 1m on a guy who is no better than someone who will cost us nothing.

Got to agree with Gav. The one thing we've been lacking the last two years is goals.

Re: LE FONDRE

I am slightly underwhelmed too. But Maynard isn't very good. Injury prone and the last time he scored more than 10 goals was 5 years ago, he really isn't the answer.

I think you will find at Championship level and above Maynard has the better strike rate

1 in 4 for maynard

1 in 2.5 for le fondre

maynard wasnt starting much either for wigan but i think he needs a season to get him going again and to be playing every game... something i dont think can be risked if we wont to go straight back up so i think he will be gone this summer

he only played 14 times for west ham 12 times for us and 16 for wigan due to injuries mind with us..

Re: LE FONDRE

Polo I often agree with your posts mate but I don't think the Maynard we have now is the same Nicky Maynard who played for Crewe and Bristol. He has had two cruciate injuries that have left him a shadow of the player he once was.
I'll be amazed if he ever rediscovers the talent he showed in his early career.
I like Mason but his career doesn't seem to be pushing on to the next level. I think his lack of pace is gonna hinder him. Shame.

As for Le Fondre what he gives is that he can affect a game in the last 20 minutes in a way very few players can.
Chicarito, Adrian Heath, and Ole himself are among few players who were able to come off the bench and immediately adapt. I think Ole sees the importance of this.

Personally I think Guerra will be our main man up top and it will be a question of who will partner him or what system will we play.

Maynards scored 13 goals since the start of the 2011 season to Le Fondre's 45 (12 of which were for a terrible Reading in the PL, although 4 were for Rotherham in L2).

Granted, Maynard had a bad injury but he hasnt had double figures in a season since 2009/10. Le Fondre consistenly reaches double figures every season and has done since 2005/06.

Re: LE FONDRE

Maynard had the chance to establish himself as a first teamer here after his injury but he came back overweight and uninterested. ALF is an improvement on Maynard. Maynard I hope goes. People can complain and say they're no improvement on our current strikers but our current strikers are non scoring, we need to freshen up our strike force whatever division we were in.

1m as well for Le Fondre, how can people complain about 2 consistent goal scoring Championship strikers for a total of 1m, its silly

What the hell as signing Macheda got to do with signing Le Fondre? They didnt come as a package.

We could sign Macheda for free and still sign someone better than Le Fondre.

You swear weve signed Jordan Rhodes the way people are banging on about Le Fondre.

He is not all that. He couldnt even get on the bench at Reading towards end of last season.

Re: LE FONDRE

Wed May 28, 2014 12:09 pm

4 goals in 11 starts for Wigan last season tells me if we can keep him fit Nicky Maynard can do the business.

We've signed Le Fondre who comes off the bench and gets his fair share of the goals, Adkins just preferred a different formation. He still chipped in with what 15 goals last season with most being on bench?

le fondre started only 22 games and scored 15 goals throughout the season.. not a bad return at all.. but id rather take mccormack over any of these strikers were signing to be honest

I swear 2 were in the same game? Maynard was barely used, we will never get a profit on Maynard ever plus his wages are exceptionally high, get rid I say

Well if you want to go by those stats Le Fondre only scored in 11 different games and 3 of his goals were penalties.

yeah they said that about him good in the box shite outside it.... to be honest most fans just go on goal scored when we sign a new player and have no idea how they play at all

Seen Maynard down the bay on the wkend, he looked like a pig, think he's being drinking to much he's was downing the pints. His goal scoring record has been absolute dire over the past few seasons, he has not been the same since his injury either. Sell him please ole. :thumbright:

Footballer enjoying his summer break before knuckling down for pre season shocker. Maynard has not had a proper run in a team since leaving Bristol City. He started well for us, had a horrendous injury and hasn't been given a chance since. Even at Wigan, Rosler played with one up front and used Maynard as an impact sub most of the time. If Maynard has a full pre season to get fit and is given a run in the team at Championship level, he will play well, score goals and look well worth the 2.75 million we paid for him.

Re: LE FONDRE

Wed May 28, 2014 1:36 pm

I think Le Fondre might be a useful signing for us and this is why...

Next season we will have one of the strongest midfields in the Championship - Whitts, Mutch, Daehli, Noone etc.

With Ole's attacking style of play we are going to create a ton of chances.

ALF's playing style is that out of a poacher, he will always be in and around the box waiting for an opportunity. He will not lack of them next season!

I think he is an improvement on some of our strikers because he has done it at PL level, 12 goals (many from the bench) in 12/13 season. Campbell only managed 6 league goals last season, Maynard or Mason have never really played at PL level, Guerra is untried in English football and Macheda hasn't done much in the PL either.

He isn't a superstar, but he might be the fox in the box our team needs. How many times last season did we have no-one in the box? That won't be the case with ALF in the team!
