Is Marshall really better the Szczesny, stats suggest no?

Saves

Club Pos Saves Apps Mins
David Marshall Cardiff GK 153 37 3,330
Wojciech Szczesny Arsenal GK 111 37 3,330
Lukasz Fabianski Arsenal GK 5 1 90

Marshall made a significantly higher number of saves last season than either of Arsenal’s goalkeepers. It can be explained through the fact he had more work to do with a leakier defence than is the case with the North London club.

Punches

Club Pos Punches Apps Mins
Wojciech Szczesny Arsenal GK 27 37 3,330
David Marshall Cardiff GK 9 37 3,330

Interestingly, one area Szczesny is dramatically in front of Marshall is punches. It suggests that the Pole was more willing to come out of goal and take the pressure off of his defence. Should Marshall sign for Arsenal, it’s an area opposition sides could put him under pressure.

High Claims

Club. Pos Good High Claim Apps Mins
Wojciech Szczesny Arsenal GK 63 37 3,330
David Marshall Cardiff Gk 58 37 3,330
Lukasz Fabianski Arsenal GK 2 1 90

That’s further demonstrated by the fact Szczesny made more successful high claims last season, again showing a willingness to take care of the danger before it developed into something more serious.

Accurate Goal Kicks

Szczesny is also ahead in terms of accurate goal kicks, which is surprising considering so much of Arsenal’s build up play starts with the defence. When the Pole needed to send the ball long, he was successful in doing so.

Penalties Saved

Szczesny also saved a penalty last season, whereas Marshall was unsuccessful in terms of stopping any spot kicks from the 12-yard mark.

Unless those stats include percentages they mean bugger all when it comes to keepers.

Those are the worst comparison stats I have seen in a while, high claims punches and goal kicks. Some keepers like to come for balls whereas others don't tend to come as much. And for the goal kicks we haven't had a big lump like giroud who can win headers from them so he's bound to win on that stat, mind you kicking is probably Marshalls weakest part of his game.

In fairness if he has a good defence in front of him he will be fine because when called upon he will make key saves for a club like Arsenal. Could stop them from getting battered for 5/6 goals against top teams keep them in games.

Marshall is ten times better than Arsenals keeper. If he went there and was second choice then that would be a joke!

True in many ways. But he will also get challenged on his weak spots, if any thought of that ;)

Stats mean absolutely nothing for a keeper, marshall is ten times the keeper Szczesny is, he's going to have better collecting/punching crosses stats as teams find it difficult to break arsenal down through the middle, so go down the wing. marshall has had to face 2 pens all season, you expect him to save them, it's just luck guessing the right way. marshall is better, all football experts would agree
