' Cardiff City set to move for Le Fondre '

Tue May 27, 2014 11:53 am

Tuesday May 27th 2014.

Cardiff City are set to sign Adam Le Fondre and a deal could be confirmed in the next 24 hours, WalesOnline understands.

Le Fondre, 27, scored 15 goals this season and had a year remaining on his contract with the Royals.

He had revealed earlier this month that talks over a new deal with Reading were "kaput" despite him being settled at the club and in the area.

Cardiff were linked with a deadline day bid for Le Fondre at the end of the January transfer window and now it seems they will get their man.

Le Fondre is set to line-up alongside Spaniard Javi Guerra in the Bluebirds' new-look strikeforce while a deal for Federico Macheda is also expected to be announced soon.

The Bluebirds have also been linked with Bournemouth frontman Lewis Grabban after reportedly having a £3m bid accepted.

Earlier this month, Le Fondre had spoken out on his prospects of staying with Nigel Adkins' men.

"The talks about my contract have been completely kaput," Le Fondre had told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"I have no idea (what the future holds). You know what is going on with the club and the takeover, so I don't know what will happen to be honest. I don't know what they will do with me.

"If they want me that will entail a new contract. Yes, I want to stay, I'm settled. My little girl is in school here, so we'll see what happens."

This is the Reading fans end of season report on ALF

Adam le Fondre - C+ - Despite finishing as our top goalscorer with 15 goals, I still think Alfie will be slightly disappointed with his return, especially after going on a three-month goal drought. Along with many others, his future is up in the air at the moment considering his current deal runs out next season and is yet to be offered a new one. If we don't offer him a new one soon, I'd imagine his agent will be making a few phone calls in August.

Underwhelming. Was 4th choice striker at Reading last season, Adkins even preffering Robson-Kanu in a striking role in front of him.

good move for us IMO. We cant exactly be demanding much given our strikers this year.

If we can get him, Macheda to go with Javi & potentially Grabham Im quite impressed

I would be ok with this signing. The goal drought the reading fan mentioned would be a slight concern but with Guerra, Campbell (at present), Mason, Maynard & possibly Macheda theres plenty of goals in the championship between them.

Obviously some ins and outs to come but another positive signing IMO.

Squad player, impact sub. Different to the other strikers mentioned, or that we already have. Our strike force will be very versatile and cause lots of problems for defenders next season. Transfer talk could also be a load of rubbish, to engineer himself a move or more favourable terms at Reading. We'll see I guess. :ole:

This is what a Reading fan posted about him on r/soccer in a thread called: What is a common misconception about your team?

"That Adam Le Fondre is good/okay/not utter dogshit. Apart from an exceptional 200 or so minutes (where other players still deserved a lot of credit. He didn't win us games single-handedly) well over a year ago, he's been terrible. It gets brought up regularly when he's mentioned, so maybe a lot of people know it by now, but really, he just isn't good. He's a pure goalscorer, contributing nothing else to the team, except he doesn't score all that many goals. There's a reason why Church, Roberts, Hunt, Pog and Blackman have all regularly started ahead of him and if you count him as a starter, he's easily our worst (unless Jobi also starts, he's shit too). It sometimes seems like he's talked about on the same level as Rhodes and McCormack, which is an absolute joke. He's probably not one of the 10 best players at a side that was lucky to finish seventh in the Championship. Unless we find a player that fills his role but is far better, we can never go up. I feel bad about clearing up this misconception though, because I still figure there might be teams that would pay way too much to have him."

It was pretty highly upvoted by what I can only assume are other Reading fans in agreement.

Safe to say this transfer doesn't fill me with confidence. Lets just hope if it goes through that we haven't paid a lot for him.

He's 5' 9". Do we need another shortie up top?

Didn't see this one coming, but I bet the ones who were saying we should sign le fondre instead of Macheda/Grabban will now be slating le fondre  the guy scores goals so can't complain, plenty of forwards tho ole must be planing 4-3-3.

But that comment simply doesn't stack up against the stats on the number of goals he scored last season. Kevin Phillips made a career on doing not much more than score goals.

He may well be an impact player from the bench for us. But when was the last time we had a sub who could regularly grab us a goal at the end of a tight game ? It's almost certain that the new Spaniard and one from Campbell or Macheda will be first choice pairing so an out and out goalscorer from the bench is exactly what we have needed for the last 3 or 4 seasons.

Ah right, I knew someone said it  To be fair I was just defending guerra against the people who were saying le fondre was better, which IMO guerra is better than le fondre. Yes he scores goals but can't say it excites me.

I think some of us could do with his betting tips, £5 at 25-1 for Diego Godin to be the first goal scorer in the CL final.

Cardiff City are hoping to sign Reading striker Adam Le Fondre for £1million.
The 27-year-old scored 15 goals last season yet was not a regular starter under Nigel Adkins.
He has built a fine goalscoring reputation in the Championship, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping his side can return to the Premier League.

Goes missing to much.

Take away his 2 hatricks against week sides then he's not all that.
