Jones still bringing in big money after leaving

Tue May 27, 2014 11:17 am

If Marshall does go for big money let us not forget he was a Jones signing. Brought in a lot of money for signings. Even after he leaves still bringing in loads.

Unlike other managers we shouldn't mention. ;)

Were always told how to thank and remember how Sam Hammam "got the ball rolling" (even though we had over 100 years of history before he came) and also about how Malky got us to the premier league and never would have got there without him.

However, nobody ever mentions jones and the millions he has brought into this club. Nobody even mentions Tan for spending money on our club. It's funny how peoples agendas effect their opinions.

Don't forget we've had numerous offers for Whittingham too. If Ridsdale didn't screw around with Ledley's contract we'd have got more then as well. DJ was a miracle worker

However Sam did start the ball rolling. We were a bottom two leagues for ages until he took us over.

Here here pal, if jones had been given what malky had he would have taken us up along with a few other managers who could have done it but like jones said at the time the malaysians didn't want to put big figures in to the club at the time so he done it on the cheap.

The failure of getting promoted in 2010/2011 was the final nail in coffin for some but I have no doubt he'd have got promoted with the money Malky got, unfortunately the Malaysians gave the money to the wrong manager at the wrong time, would have no doubt he'd have built a squad to compete of staying up, not a manager for us blessed with glory but one of the greatest we've had here :ayatollah:

The ball started rolling in 1899. Not when Sam came and almost turned the club to dust.

I guess Tan won't receive any prays though for coming in and sorting the mess Sam had started out and actually getting us to the top flight will he...

Malky - still bringing in big money after leaving with the parachute payments we are receiving, courtesy of the wonderful job he did taking us to the Premiership, something no other manager has managed in 51 years. ;)

Tan paid for the promotion. Malky would not have got us up without vast funds. Parachute payments will be offset by losses on Cornelius for one.

True we were born in 1899 but we were swimming in mediocrity with no way out. We were screwed until Sam took us over.

I'm just being fair with praising Malky as well as Jones for our club still making money. We will make millions on the sales of Campbell, Mutch and Noone in the future too and I'm sure Ole will make our club millions when we eventually sell Daehli. Every manager and owner has done their bit to get us to where we are now, which despite being relegated shows we have still come an awful long way since the time Sam took us over. I will always stick up for Sam for having the ambition, vision and balls to take us forward to this level and even Ridsdale did his bit securing the stadium, despite being dishonest with the fans.

The club needed modernising and brought out of the dark ages. Jones was an instinct kind of a guy. Old fashioned you could say. Modern football needs good structure, planning and science. Malky brought the club on leaps and bounds in this department, and thanks to the progress made behind the scenes (not inc finances) the club is on course for a bright future. :bluescarf: Ole has the characteristics of both managers and is just the man to take us on. IMO :ole:

As I keep telling my boy, Jones was our best manager in recent years

Re: Jones still bringing in big money after leaving

As much as i completely agree with Annis about Malky, and that he was one of the best managers we've ever had, we've had MANY disagreements about Jones in the past about because I think he did a brilliant job for us working under almost impossible conditions almost every year.

To just keep us in the league each (up until the last couple) would have been a great achievement in my opinion since he was working with absolutely no money and year on year kept on bringing in players who he then sold for 10 times what they were signed for to just keep this club in business.

Will always be a fan of both Malky and Jones :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

Re: Jones still bringing in big money after leaving

I totally agree that Joens is one our best managers.. He virtually never had a budget to work with but should of got us promoted in his final year with the squad he had. At the time he had the biggest budget any manager had ever had.

I also agree some what with the bashing gets for spending the money he did. As said above we will make a profit on Mutch, Campbell and Noone. If we sold Gunnerson that would also be a profit. I'd Imagine Big Ben would also bring more than we spent on him

Dont forget what Malky done in his first season as well. He didnt even have a team when he joined and got us to the play offs while also getting us to Wembley in his first season and almost winning the cup.

There are pros and cons to all of our previous managers and owners. Whether you like them or not you can't knock them for what the acheived.

But without sam, tan, jones and the rest mentioned we wouldnt be here today or have the squad we got one way or another, my guess we would still have 2-3k gates in div 2 if we was lucky thats the bottom line.

Let's not also forget that Jones was going to give Marshall away at the end of the season, 3 yrs ago, because he would not sanction Marshall's elbow surgery.

Tan isn't spending money he's loanin it to us with intrest some of our fans are to stupid to realise this we owe him a ridiculous amount of money. Sooner we get rid of the loon the better.

Dave Jones should have got us promotion.

He did a good job but he failed at the final hurdle and has to be culpable for some huge cock ups.

Yes he brought some good players in but for every Chopra there was a Redan and Ndumbu-nsungu. For every McCormack there was a J-Lloyd Samuel and Eddie Johnson.

He failed to control the dressing room-players on piss before the Boro game. Disgrace.

He had a dreadful relationship with fans and media-hope you have a s##t journey home!

He was stubborn and had 1 plan. Plan A. 442. We went 1-0 down and that was game over.

FA Cup final-not playing Ramsey.

PLay off final-bring Etuhu on when McCormack was on bench.

Don't forget he earned big wages with share issues on top and alongside Ridsdale kept oyr debt running high by signing players on huge money. Sinclair, Fowler and JFH on a combined 100k a week.

Jones was a terrific manager for us, one of the very best in our history. Still amazed that so many of our fans disliked him so much. Managers are not paid to suck up to fans and media, they are paid for results and DJ not only delivered good results but also kept the club going with his overall excellent transfer dealings.
